Frig Torrent physics part one

Apr 07, 2004 turanicraider link
After spending a LONG time getting each turret tested, per angle and range, I have begun to print out my bug findings.

I would like to thank Sherpa (spelling?) for the assistance of keeping the griefers away that continued to attack me, even though I declared multiple times I was bug testing. The assistance of having a guide help made my weeks of finishing this bug test taking only a few minutes.

What I have discovered so far:

Ship/weapon used during testing: Stock Bus

- The area's directly in front and behind the frig are almost complete blindspots. By navigating slowly (2 - 5) directly in front of it, you can reach a distance of 347m before it begins firing. Directly behind it is similar, as the distance is around 390m. As they have a head on angle, I expect the physics to compensate for that short distance. Because they are slightly tilted I can understand the decrease in maximum shooting distance, but not 400m worth.

- The reason I say 400m is because on the broad side, the turrets are facing damn near at a 90 degree angle away from you, meaning they should have even less pinpoint accuracey. They, however, open fire at 670-650m range.

- In short, I've noticed that the closer of an angle you have to the front or back, the closer you can move in. Now, I know that the laws of physics are not universal here, but it does seem very off in terms of range/distance/line of sight. Could it be that you coded it that way to have better pilots find it as a weakness later in the game, or is it unexpected behavior?

I have much more information and would like to help the devs as much as possible, but would first like to know if this path I am persuing is even worth it in their eyes.

edit: spelling errors fixed and griefer's names removed. blame both on being an overly tired bug tester
