broken bots (global)

Jun 14, 2004 NoAddedSugar link
the bots are not striking back...
everythingelse seems ok. They are hitable, destroyable, they are even attacking... but NOT shooting.
Jun 14, 2004 Spider link
some of them appear to be invulnerable from time to time.

Botting is boring.

>they are even attacking... but NOT shooting

What? Bots attacking but not shooting... err... right...

So I guess the new bot code broke over time... are they just floating into space... going 192892483km away from the sector?
Jun 15, 2004 Spider link
No.. they fly around as if they are attacking, they chase, dodge and pretend to blast all weapons at you. But never actually fire....
Jun 15, 2004 AlienB link
sniff...they just want to be our friends...sniff...

Maybe they became intelligent and realized that shooting is not the answer.
Or they are trying to be civilized and reason their way out of battle but are unable to talk.

lol @ ray

and i thought they just ran out of cash and couldnt buy any ammo....

Jun 15, 2004 AlienB link
Yeah, that energy weapon ammo is damn expensive.

I just scared the bots into submission....yeah..that's it..

Your face would do that!!......................................................HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

ok, I'll stop now.

Why do I have the feeling that the bots not shooting is intentional??

<conspiracy mode>
me too ... The bug is just a little bit too odd to appear at this time :D

my theory .. there will be a reset SOON :D
</conspiracy mode>

... or it's just aa bug :P

We must trust a female intuition :-)

They turned them off so it's easy to get acceptance
for a near global reset.

If it was a bug they should have fixed it the same day.

ohh, and I was working so hard to get admire in all trading sectors so I could ..... yeah, you know..

Well, I'm in for a new try, a few weeks work, what is that
compared to the age of universe?

Well, it's kind of like the Homestead Act....wouldn't it have been a different animal if everyone lining up to claim land in the rush had different modes of travel like covered wagons versus bullet trains...horses versus dirt bikes...??!!

If everyone is in a covered wagon (read bus), it makes it a more even playing field for the rush to sectors.

Its almost as if they were on strike or surrendered. Hehe, to confess I actually like that the bots lost their weapons, what i dont like tis that some wepaons they shoot are my favorite and it bores me when they dont shoot those weapons.
Jun 18, 2004 a1k0n link
Heh. Honestly I have no idea why they aren't shooting, but I don't really have time to fix it, nor do I really care. It's probably related to the Lua stack memory leak that I already fixed, but the server's been up for a month straight so the fix obviously hasn't gone in. It will no longer matter very shortly.

It's rather depressing... I'll be cruising along, minding my own business, hauling some cargo on some trade mission. I stop, turn around, and I'm staring at three bots that have tailed me most of the way across the sector.

They look like little lost puppy dogs. Puppy dogs without teeth. Sorta sad, when I think about it.
Jun 19, 2004 Mariner link
Not sad at all. I just collected most of the bots in sector 8, and we played together for hours. You have to be careful with them, they're quite clumsy and tend to run into each other. And you can herd them by firing near them. All in all, great fun.

Perhaps the anthropologists have it wrong. We didn't domesticate the canine at all, it was a software glitch.
