Please please please, In the next release of vendetta
can i have a ship called the 'Armadillo'.

It is a big as a Hvy, but with a lights agility, speed and quickness. Has an extra Hvy Battery Max power 2000
Hvy Engine's Maxspeed 1000m/s
and is armed with the following: -

2 twin mounted (exteral pod) Blue lasers.
4 forward firing Blue ions
4x 16 rocket pods (360 degrees arc of fire)
8 sets of Heat seeker missile lanchers
12 sets of Swarms Launchers (also with 360deg arc of fire)
2 mine layers with 100 mines each.(have to be lightning mines)
Enough cargo space to hold 48 Adv nano widgets.

Erm....

ah, 1 set of homers (just to act as a deterent-cos i dont really use them).

And that's It.

Please. (Me like dev's)

White Magic.

Ps. If not can i just have... An Armadillo Captial ship - multiply the above by 3 for the stats.!!

Thanx.

Sure, that'd be a great ship. However, with those stats, I'd say about 150k to get and outfit a single "Armadillo". At least, and this is without widgets.

I assume that this was meant to be funny?

I don't really get it. Can you explain the joke? Is your High Schoo's mascot the Armadillo?

If this wasn't meant to be funny, I very much hope that no one single ship is 'better' than other ships. I would like ships to be balanced, each to have thier own role, and each to be 'fun' to fly for a person who feels that the ship fits thier personal 'style'.

A ship bigger than a heavy equiped with the same 'quality' of engines, should not be as manueverable as the heavy. The ship you describe is BTW in many ways very similar to the Valkyrie ship which is featured in my story 'The Cold Front' (which hopefully I'll have a chance to return to soon), except that when I described the Valkryie I tried to give it weaknesses that made up for its strengths. Certain things you ask for are reasonable, 2000 battery power for instance. Certain things you ask for are not so reasonable, like 12 sets of swarm launchers (think of the lag!) and a max speed of 1000m/s (we'd have people trying to reach the sky box again).

It would be REALLY nice to have a heavy cargo ship, though. The devs taunt us with cap ships, but would it be so hard to ask Waylon for a heavy heavy ship model, multination, and with heavier armor, a bigger & faster recharging battery and ~48 cargo space. Oh well. Maybe I should not post until 3.2...

You don't necessarily need a bigger battery. You can just increase the number of batteries that the ship can carry. Then you can configure as you need, 4 light batteries, or 4 heavy batteries, or some mixture.

And you don't necessarily need a cargo ship. You just buy a bigger ship hull and you don't fill it with weapons, you use civilian grade (smaller) batteries and engines, add extra cargo modules to it, and so forth. Viola, sluggish lightly armed cargo ship with lots of cargo space.

Celebrim: Thats a great idea!!! NOT.
Pirating is very common if you hadnt noticed. The idea or a cargo ship means people like icarus, will just target those for three reasons.
1)They're an easier target due to the lack of weaponary.
2)You still get the players bounty.
3)You are guarantied to get more worth in cargo.
My, my, why dont you just paint the thing brown and green, give the design, the appearence of wings- After all it would just be a sitting duck.

The fighting armadillo, was a joke. For those people with a sense of humor. Armadillo's are animals that are well defended. Hence all the armour and extra weaoponary.

I thought it would be a great idea to 'have a laugh' with a completely impossible Ship design. But if it was possible think of all the distruction.....!

I'm Sorry if i offened your intelligence Celebrim. But you have to admit that the overall outcome of this unimaginable post has developed a few good ideas:-

The introduction of bigger Batteries, power cells, and more space for cargo...? ( But of course, the dev's would have already discussed this before - So i cant wait until the final outcome of the game.)

Thanks All

White Magic.

Actually, I kinda like celebrim's idea:

Only a complete idiot would put together a ship like that...

.. it would be far too open for pirating ..

.. it would be slow ..

.. infact you may as well just get a cargo crate, strap engines to the back and sit on top in a spacesuit with a gun..

... but at least you had the choice, and that's what counts ;-)

just my 2 pence

As long as we're asking for custom ships, I want a "Death Star" with a "laser" on it.

I think part of the problem is that people assume that the world will remain exactly like it is.

Ok, so most people won't want to use an unarmed, civilian transport and probably won't want to use it as a primary vechical.

That's perfectly understandable. But they ought to have the right to create them, and moreover you'd kind of expect AI to have ships like that.

But, in a full RPG universe, there would be plenty of uses for an unarmed transport. Right now we have just 1 'home sector', and you can't do any trading within it. But in a universe with 10,000 sectors some sectors might well be 10 or more sectors behind friendly lines. If you have 1000 'blue' players between you and the nearest 'red' pirate, and you are looking to make cash safely - there isn't alot of reason not to build an inexpensive transport load it up with something and run a trading route entirely within 'friendly' sectors. Maybe the route won't be the most profitable route in the galaxy, but it would be a pretty safe thing to do and something I would definately expect newbie traders looking to work up some capital to do.

and me will be one of them :D

OH OH, i wouldn't mind a vulture that does the following:
--When hit, it grows this big fat mean looking panels that provide armor
--When attacking it grows big fat mean looking guns that kill quickly
--when turboing the wings fold back thus makeing it go faster

Just my dream ship =P

(if your imagination is strained, think polaris (if you play evn (if not HAHA)))

I agree with Celebrim.. The universe will change and there will be more laws/honor than there currently is. There will be mean, fast AI patrol ships in each sector that would attack someone for opening fire in a sector (Think EV). You don't just go around blowing people away. A cargo ship is a great idea. If it carries ~50 widgets, you can easily hire an escort ("I'll give 15%25 of the cut to anyone who will escort me"; 3 escorts and you still take home 55%25". That's a good amount of cash. Considering you're carrying advanced nano's (~2000 each), each escort would be making 15,000 per run. That's a good bit of cash for just escorting a cargo ship. :)

Remember also, though, that the devs have specifically told us that this game will retain some of its "deathmatch" status in its final incarnation. Therefore, I assume that anyone using weapons will not be killed, and trading will remain almost as hazardous as is. However, we must also remember that there will be tons of sectors and profits may change from 2000 a widget to 20000 a widget... I dunno. Just my 1.9999cents

I would ride in the unarmed cargo ship :) its what i do ALL the time

Dude, I totally want the "cargo crate with engines and a guy in a spacesuit with a gun strapped on" ship.
Apr 10, 2003 Spellcast link
Actually on the notion of someone pirating a large cargo ship there is one LARGE drawback.. space.. to carry all the cargo you would have to be FLYING a large cargo ship.. or working with several other pirates.. which means that your share of the loot is still gonna be the same size. namely the cargo hold of the ship YOU are in.

just a point..

Spellcast
Apr 10, 2003 Celebrim link
Spellcast has a very good point. The existance of large ships will in and of itself (if properly done) encourage teamwork.

If a large ship and two escorts can carry more cargo more efficiently than three people in fighters, then you will see more teams of traders.

If trading ships carry more cargo than any one pirate can hual, then you will see more teams of raiders. In fact, you may well see pirate raiders themselves using relatively unarmed large ships to haul away the booty.

As for the large ships vunerability, that may well be true, but I wouldn't think it unreasonable for mid-sized transports (ei between fighters and small capital ships in size) to have 40,000 or 60,000 hull points just because they are well big. Simply being huge (well, compared to a fighter at least) will offer them some protection to mitigate the fact that they are basically a sitting duck versus military craft.

Plus, no one says you have to maximize your cargo capacity. You could always take the 'Millenium Falcon' approach.

Its really nice to see my spoof post develop into something of a great discussion.

Well done And thank you all!!!

/me is happy. : )

blues raiders task force ???????

Apr 11, 2003 Craigus Meridius link
Yeah,

Blue Raiders Task Force Or BRTF. They are a bit like the british - SAS or Americian Delta Force/ Navey Seals but in Space. (A special ops team of pilots. They are there to protect and to serve the blue nation. Defend its trade routes. Escort colonies and trade craft or simply raid and pirate other nations.

Rene: best drop into team chat mode nxt time.

Cheers ;)
