Just a Thought

Apr 11, 2003 Craigus Meridius link
/me has two thought's before passing out.

1) At any stage in the future, will damage from space debris be introduced. It would make the game a little bit risky, though still enjoyable. Especially when attacking cargo ships..lol.

2) Also. Whats the chances of adding critical damage. Ie. 5% of hits taken might include a critical hit causing several things to happen - Instant kill as pilot is shot in cockpit. Or the ships ammo has been ignited, thus /exploding the ship. etc etc.
( I would mean that even if the player ur attacking is far better then u, u still have that small chance of killing them with a crit.... if you hit them?

/me likes crit "Blast shoots pilot through the neck, causing head to be severed from body. As you fly past you see your enemnys head bouncing around the cockpit" ( lol ) "what would you do next" Of course this wouldn't be shown in text format like standard RGP, but the visuals would be fantastic.

1) And flying into asteroids doesn't do damage already?

Seriously, dont modern ships have "deflector" sheilds for that kinda thing?

2) Although "fluke shots" are realistic, that would piss me off. Docking at s9 station, and a rouge shot from one of the bots hit a critical component causing a small internal explosion that sent shrapnel flying, severing my testicles to a point where they cant be rejoined and i'm so gutted have to shoot myself in the head... thereby causing an airleak in the cockpit glass, imploding my nice new 100% heavy and all its 14 widgets, when i haven't even gone hostile???

naa ;-)

Asphy...
1) Realistical anyone flying into an asteroid, isn't going to survive!! And i dont think deflector shield would deflect a solid object. Energy weapons yes. Rock - i shouldnt think so.

For example- 'Shooting a lazer at a object protected by a deflector shield.' The shot should be deflected. (providing its the deflector shield is working ok.) But fire a solid round, such a shotgun round, bullet or even by using a rocket. Then its a different matter - the object would be hit.

Deflector shields are for energy weapons / Armour is for the other.

2) 'fluke shots' agreed are realistic and i believe they should be introduced. I've been RPGing for about 10yrs (the game 'Rolemaster' from ICE.) And its fun when u get that lucky hit in, just when u think everything is against you. (this maynot be the case- but fun nether the less).Having that realistic edge of danger, is better then just, simply shooting them until they have no health left!!!

I think maybe a 1-4% chance of a critical hit with each shot fired is fair. I'm sure if u were fighting someone like Icarus and killed him in one shot, you wouldnt complain. And don't forget the stories you could tell afterwards. "Yeah, i stuc's a rocket right up his thruster!!" "just one I tell ya!"

/me wants change from adding my last 5 cents in.

White Magic.

PS. Asphy stay away from the star trek series. You've watched to many.

make that change for a critical hit, very minor, because like in the BG saga, you really don't get that that often. rather 1%

cheers

Hmmm...

1) My guess is that damage from 'space debris' is a no, simply because it requires to much object tracking and too much from older graphics cards.
Damage from flying face first into a 'roid, well we've already got that, though personally I think the algorithm that the devs have used is a little screwy (but that's just me).

2) I'd be against critical hits that instantly fried the pilot or blew up the ship.
I suspect from the little evidence we have so far that the devs are planning something somewhat niftier.
You will note that the game engine already tracks the location of hits on the ship (front, rear, sides).
A really cool critical hits system would give you no chance of a crit as long as your hull was 'green', but once your hull started failing (went to 'yellow' and then to 'red') you would have an increasing chance of a critical hit to some subsystem of your ship for each hit you took based on how hard each hit was.
A critical hit would disable a system or reduce its efficiency for a certain period of time. The more common critical hits would disable the system for a short time (a few seconds), while less common critical hits would disable the system for a moderate time (a few minutes), and the rarer hits would either disable the subsystem until the ship could be docked with a station or outright destroy the subsystem. For instance, if a ship's rear hull went red, there would be a chance that the ship's engine would have reduced capacity for a few seconds or a few minutes, or would even stop working completely. A ship that went red in the prow might have a good chance of losing all or part of its radar, etc.
Ideally, the players could acquire skill points that reduced the time necessary to repair a subsystem that had be disabled.

I take it you play Warhammer fantasy?

"I take it you play Warhammer fantasy?"
LOL... Once upon a time Celebrim!! hahahaha.

I was just using it as an example. Believe me, the quote was not inteaded to resemble Warhammer thats for sure.

Thanks for your feed back. - I would have to agree with you on both. Also,

" For instance, if a ship's rear hull went red, there would be a chance that the ship's engine would have reduced capacity for a few seconds or a few minutes, or would even stop working completely. "

- this could be the starting of a repair ship??? If the pilot was experencing differculties perhaps he could (somehow) contact the nearest station to send out a repair team?(consisting of 1 repair craft and two escorts) This service should cost the ppl a bit, but would be better then losing the pilot and craft.

Renegade, 1% is far too often for a game like this, all it would take for one to critical hit someone is just 100 ions, which don't have to hit i'll point out, you could fire 75 that missed then 24 that hit then 1 that hit and did critical damage, more like .1% is better.
Apr 14, 2003 Craigus Meridius link
LOL @Sui.

Sorry Sui, i found that funny. Honestly if you hit with 24 ion's then the chances are the person will be dead already(Depending on ship). : D
The chances would be far less then are inmagined. For every 100 that hit - Only 1 would involve a spectacular death scene caused by a critical strike. The over all chances of causing damage like this would be more like -from 1 in 4 fights, to 1 in 100 fights? Depending on how many accutal hits your foes have accuired.
Lets not forget the critical could be random. Which means that instead of dying. The firing controls get destroyed. So u cant shoot back. Or an engine gets knocked out(these could be on a time limit of course). etc etc.

I was also looking at the concept of having different death scenes when a ship gets destroyed. Or damaged?
Not that i like the game much but its a bt like mortal kombat's death scene? (Finishing moves?). But i image the devs have thought of this already and it envolves too much work.

Mind you i suppose its not the scene that really counts, Its the death of your opponent that Does!!

/me is soooo happy when a pro explodes when me kills him/her.

Apr 14, 2003 Renegade ++RIP++ link
yeah, but I meant 1 % of those that hit

but if we follow your thoughts maybe 0.05 %, maybe less

don't know, I just want that it doesn't happen a lot.

cheers

PS WM, then you didn't see the fight between me and asp a time ago, we fought 10 minutes without anyone of us getting hit once. but after that , I think our fingers started to get tired because we killed each other at the same time, must tell you that that was fun :D. OOh and it was an ion only battle, I can tell you if I had had that chance of 1% he would have been o so death :D

besides, I hate critical strikes, if I'mon the receiving end, maybe they should put in some gizmo's that prevent criticial hits on certain places, like in BG2 if you wear a helmet, criticals don't do double damage, but the extra tastefullness does happen, the screen goes up and down "wavering?"

oohh well, we'll see what the devy's have in mind/storage :D

double cheers ;)

Then 'POOFF' white smoke appears filling the beaten up wooden barn that he's hidin in. louder and louder a noise becomes....
'ZIP, ZIP, ZIP, ZZZEEEEEEIPPPPP' ZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzziiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppppppppppppppppppppPPP'

"AAAAAHHH" /me runs out of the barn door. Running for his life.
"oop's" Mess'd that up. The chainsaw was supposed to be added to my ship as a leathel close combat weapon. NOT transforming his ship into a chainsaw with four leggs, four eyes and a hunger for White Magic flesh!!!

Yiikes. erm... guys help? guy's? GUYS? HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!
