Make the torp more powerful!

Yes, that's right. make it more powerful. Powerful to the point where it will kill ANY ship we have now in 1 blast, including proms.

Why? is what i expect you be asking now. You are bitching and complaining about how easy it is to pam and kill someone with them, so why make it stronger???

Because proms can live through 1 or 2 blasts from a nuke. 1 OR 2!! atleast 1!!! so the reds ram and nuke people. then go back and repair. but if the nuke would obliterate them, then they lose. A decked out prom with a nuke launcher costs TWICE as much as any blue or gold special, so they wouldn't want to risk losing them as fast. Death would really kick them in their wallet's balls so to speak.

And THAT is the ONLY thing the Promethius has going for it. It's slow, some think ugly, and it drives like a 3-legged cow. Increasing the damage from the torps will worsen all the other issues with them, and will strip the Promethius of it's only advantage.

I don't use the Promethius / torpedo attack, but frankly if people are dying from an attack from the slowest ship with the slowest weapon, that's not unfair, it's Natural Selection.

How many people are mauled by 3-legged cows each year?

The prom is as manuverable as a pregnent space cow.
If it doesn't hit all the people in the blast, guess what? it's screwed!!!!
Just don't sit in a glob that is 500m across, have people scouting around more then 250m away from flag carryer.

Why is the avalon the most expensive weapon out there? It does the most damage!
Why is the prometheus the most expensive ship? It can take the most damage!

Sam, this just screams out the true purpose of serco, they are the warrior race, there ship can do this for a reason.

If you want the most devestateing mine, get avalons!

i know it's it's true purpose.. and i like the prom the way it is. but if the valk is gonna be stripped of all it' adgantages, why not strip the prom to?
Apr 25, 2003 Arolte link
That's where you're wrong, guys. You obviously didn't read the response I posted about Serco nation having the disadvantage. A single prometheus without nukes can take down two, three, or even four fighters with the proper weapon configuration. Their heavy hull is what makes them special. NUKES are not necessary for them.

Right. I wasn't trying to imply that a Promethius with nukes was the only configuration it was intended for, I was saying that the only asset the Prom has is that it is a beast, and upping the damage from the Avalons to kill it negates that asset and creates a host of other problems. If anything, why not decrease their damage so that the attack is less devastating?

Sour grapes about the Valk, you know there's no comparison here.

The Prometheus says that it is distinctly an "armored" ship....
Keep it up there..

Actually, it's a good idea to up the damage. For one thing, it's still not powerful enough even to use on turrets, and they only have 45000 health. For another thing, if the avalons had a damage of 15000, people would complain less about national advantages *coughAroltecough*. After all, why not nerf everything? It makes for a more even playing field...
Apr 25, 2003 Arolte link
Understood. I just read your response incorrectly. In that case I wouldn't favor upping the damage either. The avalon torpedoes just need to be changed in a way where they'll be used against capital ships and frigates, but not against fighters and bombers. Lowering or taking out the proximity detonator would probably do the job. A direct hit should be required, making it easier for fighters to dodge at close range, but hard for the capital ship/frigate to avoid. It's a specialized weapon meant to take out very strong or big ships, obviously. There just needs to be a way to discourage players from using them incorrectly.

Did you forget that another use PROPOSED by a dev is anti-station-defense torpedoes? They are smaller than ships, you know... And they are supposed to shoot back at some point in time, the devs are sure of it, I think. So taking out proxy bad thought. But I won't post this anymore, because the mad moderator locked our thread... ;)

That I'll agree with. Also, can it be made so that the swarms are direct-hit, too?
Apr 26, 2003 Spellcast link
ok lets make the avalon a direct hit weapon.. now instead of boosting to within 70 meters.. the potential kamakazie just has to get to within 10 and be pointed at you. harder, yes.. but still not impossible. taking away the proximity warhead is NOT going to solve the problem. you still have the same problems you had before, the nuke carrier boosts into the middle of the fight, gets as close as he can, and pops off a nuke, or 2.

Give the weapon an arming time of 5 or 10 seconds of flight.. then even if the target boosts right into you, the avalon will not go off. a capital ship is not going to be able to change course very much in 5 or even 10 seconds, and station defenses are fixed, but if you cant get a fighter out of the way in 5 seconds.. you deserve to be hit with the torp.
Apr 26, 2003 Arolte link
Uhhh, Rogue, dunno if you noticed but stations and their defenses don't move. If you can't hit an immobile target in the game with ANY weapon, then you really should learn to aim. And besides, the station defenses were meant to be tough to kill. If everyone had an uber weapon that would eliminate station defenses in one swoop, flag capping would be too easy. Heck, right now we don't even NEED to kill the defense turrets to get the flag out.
Apr 26, 2003 Suicidal Lemming link
Right now it takes 4 avalons to take one out, every station defense is placed more then 250m away from eachother, once the ai improves you will need to take them out.
Apr 26, 2003 roguelazer link
Therefore to clear a station requires 16 avalons, which is a rather lot. If in fact the health is 45000, then upping the damage of the torpedo to 15000 would make it only 3 shots each, or a total of 12 shots.

Orrrrrrrr how 'bout just reducing the hull of the defense drones? Maybe? Why do people always have to look at these things one-sided?

/me sighs.

Arolte, fort knox has a 10 meter thick steel door for a reason.
Apr 26, 2003 Pyro link
It has a 31 foot thick steel door??? How do they move the thing?
Apr 26, 2003 Arolte link
Okay then, DON'T increase the power of the Avalons. Make up your minds, people! I'm just trying to point out other ways of solving these problems. Don't focus on the weapons themselves. The range of hull protection varies greatly between different ships. Don't forget that.
