Neutral station defenses are planned, including a no-fire zone.

Boo HOO, plz stop whining, it's part of the game.

willis,

I know, it is part off gamepley, but it does brake gameplay when you aren't to make 1 succesfull traderun and it only becomes a massacre over and over again.

I'm starting to get fed up with these remarks, ooohh whining , ooohh whiner, just because something isn't as you percieve it should be it isn't that he is whining.

He just made a remark, if you really want an example of whining, then I'm more then willing to give it.

Stop insulting people for god sake, just stop with it.

Please, stop with it.

PS: I would even wonder what you would do if they shot you over and over and over again without you being able to defend yourselve effectively against it.

PPS: sorry for this rant, but was starting to become tired off these reply's

cheers

You don't need to be sorry, the people whining about the people that get pirated need to get there mouth duct taped shut, now.

There's a difference between pirates and griefers, although you can deal with them in fairly similar ways.

A pirate is a guy who's after your cargo (we'll skip bounty-hunters and other one-time killers). A griefer is a person who, in short, is a buttbite and enjoys killing players.

Griefers: Get your team mates to come deal with the little cretin. Either he'll sit in the station and talk trash, or he'll run from sector to sector with several players on his tail--either way, he's out of the picture for awhile and may even log off for the night.

Pirates: Fly in a convoy. The MM in MMORPG doesn't stand for sugar-coated candied peanuts. One fighter against one tradeship is going to result in a dead tradeship. Several traders can stand off a few fighters easily enough, by virtue of a massive volume of enthusiastic firepower, even if it's not very accurate. If your convoy ever comes across a group (extremely unlikely) of dedicated pirates, or sector/station blockaders, then get a few fighters on your side to keep the bad guys busy while you do business.

Either way, you're on a team for a reason. Use teamwork. If you tape chum to your swimming trunks and go swimming in a shark-infested ocean, don't be surprised if you find yourself short a leg or two.

Acierocolotl, you beat me to it. I've been saying this for a long time. Why do you whiners think that one tradeship should be able to take down one skilled pirate? Teamwork. When was the last time a pirate touched a convoy of, oh, say, a prom, two mauraders, and a valk?

Secondly, I think the other problem is that when a trader dies, he talks trash to the pirate, which only encourages the evil dude to kill the trader again, only now "for the fun of it." Traders, if you're in the biz of making money, it is better to swallow your words (see if they're bitter), and just take the hit. You'll probably lose a lot more money trying to kill that pirate once then being pirated once. However, if you run across a "griefer," either log-off (life does not depend on Vendetta) for a while, or call your friends for help. I remember hearing about Phoenix being run off from 15 when a bunch of golds and reds got together to take him down.

Yeah, I'm actually rather surprised I haven't seen the idea of the trade convoy catch on. Everyone seems to mostly do their own thing when it comes to trading, even if there do happen to be a bunch of known pirates signed on.

A couple of moderately-armed cargo ships and a light fighter or two teaming up would probably eliminate the threat from any single pirate. Give the fighters a cut of the trading profits, and things would work out pretty well.

Heh. We do that sometimes. But then people get bored and run away. :(

The problem about the convoy is that the new people are a little nervous about asking for help and the old players just plain don't care about new people so convoys just end up not happening.

Are they really planning on putting neutral station defences in?

"Are they really planning on putting neutral station defences in?"

Yes. They've been saying so officially for at least 9 months now. As all the defence turrets in the game are currently offline, I figure that they are in the process of converting the AI of the turrets to a new standard and we will see more neutral stations defences in the next month or two.

Renegade:
I have never been pirated... Only before 3.2 have I ever been pirated. Not only that, how many times have we heard pirate complaints?? TOO MANY, so if this was the first post about it, sure I wouldn't call it whining, but I'm sick and tired of all these people complaining about pirates, kill the pirate, get a group to kill the pirates, like jeezus christ all mighty there are so many ways to help, but all people do is whine.
May 07, 2003 Renegade ++RIP++ link
Yeah, but if it is a new person on the board

he is just fed up with it, and didn't read all the posts about it.

You could just as well just state, we know it has been said countless times in countless posts, but it seems as if it is part of the game, because there hasn't really been a dev stating that they were opposed to it or sonething in these lines.

Nobody likes being called a whiner just because he puts his opinion forward. If you want to be treated nicely treat them nicely. with this I mean, calling people like this on a public board won't encourage the good heart of the community, but will only sicken it more.

cheers

/end rant , started rant somewhere in the post :(

pirating is not being addressed by the devs for very good reason IMHO.. yes it is part of the game, however it will not be as big of a problem in the final game. why do i say this you ask..

SIZE: right now we have 15 sectors, there are only 6 of them in which all players cannot dock. there is no sector you can't make it to a station that you can dock at in more than 2 wormhole jumps.

ok now lets change the scale a little, imagine 1000 sectors, there are maybe 100 "nation" sectors for each nation. now there are sectors that are 5 or more jumps from a station where someone not from your nation can dock. Now there are places where someone who just wants to trade can do so (mostly) in peace. If a pirate has to fly across 5 sectors to escape after pirating someone.. the number of pirates is going to go down.. at least in those sectors. Of course the "Non-Aligned" sectors are going to still have pirates, but traders will KNOW this, and that is a risk that they just have to take. The "Peaceful" routes deep inside home space will probably not be as profitable, but they balance out by having less risk of pirating.

Also the Dev's have hinted at a reputation system, ideally this would allow players to dock at a "nation" station not of another nation as long as they have NEVER fired the first shot at someone from that nation, or perhaps something like the PK system on ultima online.. where if you attack other players you get a flag on your account, so many flags and you are banned from docking anywhere but neutral/home sectors. thus making non nation specific trading possible, but the minute you decide you want to turn pirate.. bye bye docking priveledges.

A neutral "No Fire" zone would be good. And possibly a system where people with an evilness scale of X will be killed by defence police.

Actually, pirating wouldn't be soo bad, if only there were inshurace!!! 50% back wouldn't be bad, though i would wish for something like 80% back.
May 08, 2003 MaloventEvil link
insurance would be cool. i was missinformed about pirating i meant when people camp outside of your station after you died (like 4 people) and just continuously kill you although you cant even defend yourself (bus or no weapons). =[. i dont mind the people jacking me while in space as long as they do it tastefully aka: "drop your cargo or i kill you." instead of "dead."

MaloventEvil person... hey, can I just call you ME? That's so much more cheerful.

IF you're ever in that situation again, where you're camp-killed, stay in the station. Press the tilde (~) key. It drops down the "console" and acts like a big chat window. Type this:

/teamsay I need backup! Evil griefers have me trapped!

This will send a message to your team, and even tell you which sector you're in. If your team has players worthy of mention, the cavalry will come charging in and make life miserable for them. You can rely on my various characters to bail you out if you're on my team; I gleefully enjoy massed, messy combat.

Which reminds me--I should probably write up a brief guide on teamplay for players.
