Nerf Valkyries

There you go again. And again you are wrong Ayn.
Max armor on valk is 11600, top speed is 225 and drain 55.
Yes its the unique itani fighter ship.
Serco unique monster SCP has 21000 armor, 220 top speed and 60 drain and dont forget it has thrust and spin torque of a rev c.
How do they compare?
Well, long time practice shows that a very good pilot in a valkyre can win some fights against SCP but in general it always takes at least 2 ships to efficiently deal with SCP.
Both ships have their advantages and flaws.
Valkyres are fast attack ships best used with hit and run tactics.
SCP is a heavy bomber with a lot firepower, uber armor and manouverability of a centurion. Althou it cant catch a running valk but it can kill quickly anything at close range.
Its an old faction ship balance talk thats leading nowhere.
Sure devs can nerf valkyre but then SCP should be nerfed by cutting its armor to 15000 and reducing its thrust and spin torque to ragnarok specs.
Will ppl be satisfied with it then?
I dont think so.

I regularly defeat Valks in a Corvus Vulture. The thing is a potato, round and easy to hit. Granted, it is quite dangerous in the right hands, but in unskilled hands it's size and shape are a hindrence. Now, a prom on the other hand can be effective even in mediocre hands, it's high armor and common agt flare loadout forgive the inability to, you know, aim. The valk is fine, although it's top speed could use a kick back up to 240.

I agree with tumble, valk is toast if facing good pilot in rev c or vulturis.
Their potato shape just sucks in energy shots.

So where is the problem then Ayn?

I give up.

nerf shape.

I think the Itani Valkyrie is SUPPOSED to be the best light fighter..

The Prom is a lot more scary, being heaps tougher and very maneuverable!

Give the Valk a heavy slot and make the boost 60, that would be fair :p

Heh, i would like a valk with a jackhammer.:P

I want a "Boom Ayn" button in my valk...

So basically, Ayn, what you're saying is you want the drain on the valk increased because otherwise you can't run away from it. Got it.
May 24, 2006 moldyman link
Yes, AYn. You and space hunter both use Valkyries. And guess what the only problem with drain is? WHen you try to trubo away for long periods of time. And who are the ones sitting in Valkyries that run away?

Stop shooting yourselves in the foot.

tumble, maybe 230, given that ever other damn ship in the game can reach 220 max.

Blah. I shouldn't really post in this thread, as Ayns contributions are just regurgitated (and wildly erroneous) semantic loops, but I will say this:

Devs, please continue to maintain a state of imbalance between ship stats.

I *like* the fact that it takes two ships to deal with one SCP, as a general rule. In fantasy game where the avatar is your character, I can understand that there is a need for balance between different classes and races. But in VO, it stands to reason, both gameplay-wise and from an in-canon perspective, that some equipment should just be plain better than other.

If you need to balance the existence of extremely powerful ships, increase their license levels (or better yet, adjust the missions needed to acquire them, to get with the program and take the future license system into account ;-) ), and pop their purchase costs up to incredibly, surreal levels.

That used to be one of the primary game design rules of the first MMORPGs, as well as the MUDs before them: something that ANYONE in the game can use (even if takes time and investment to get it), need not be balanced. Only aspects that are locked to character development choices (class, race, funny avatar facial tattoos) need to be balanced stat-wise.

Of course, every ship in game should have a function and area of use, a reason for its existence. But prizing, avaliability and license requirements can take care of that, and be the balancing factors.

1) If there is a problem with the Valk drain at all, it is inconsistency with other model ranges. In every other range (except the Hornet), the best models have a slightly worse drain. You also find the same inconsistency at the lower end of the Valk range, since the basic model and the Rune do not have infiniboost.

2) Re: "And guess what the only problem with drain is? WHen you try to trubo away for long periods of time." That is not true. You don't realise it when you fight only with rockets, moldyman. When you fight with energy, the battery drain is important (except in face-to-face dogfight duels to the death).

3) Re effects of a drain increase: it is almost as easy to run from a fight in a light fighter with 60 drain instead of 55. So that is not a real issue. A drain increase would just reduce the Valk's effectiveness in multiplayer fights or convoy attack/defense, where battery management is important.

I don't think they're overpowered... I kill valks ALL THE TIME, and they're a hell of a lot easier to kill than light fighters like the IBG/RevC - they have much larger area, move slower, and only have about 30% more armor. I can rip them to shreds in no time using a Ragnarok or Rev C. Just about the only ship that has a distinct disadvantage over the Valk in combat is the Vulture, since its wingspan makes it a magnet for a valk carrying flares. Aside from that and the traders who can't outrun a pirate valk, they're nothing extraodrinary to deal with.

Valks don't need a nerf. If you don't like fighting them in a Vulture, then don't use a vulture against them.

EDIT: UIT Mauds do need a beef though, to keep them competitive with the valk/prom of the Itani/Serco.

This is too funny. Ayn blames the whole community because not one other person shares his idea. You might take a hint when the whole community disagrees with you, but nope, apparently there's no point in arguing with "this community" Ayn isn't wrong. Nooooo, of course not. It's the community that's wrong.

Valk is fine, leave it how it is. Maybe if you spent more time fighting in one instead of running all the time, you'd agree.

Flares launched from a valk can be dodged while in a vult, it just takes a little PILOT SKILL. That's the tradeoff with a vult, harder target for energy, easier target for flares. A vult can easily take out a valk, you just have to fly it differently.

Ayn, you missed some on the RP board.

People, I think judging by the sort of posts, and the consistent negative feedback, Ayn would have to be an idiot not to expect it, so he's probably just doing it all for attention. Thus the only solutions are a) Ayn stops playing, b) We stop acknowledging his presense, including on boards and ingame, c) He get banned for consistently pissing off so many people.

I know what i vote for!

Option B would be the mature solution to the issue, but it's unrealistic to expect it to work (on the forums) when we can't ignore posts by certain accounts on the forums.

I'll go for a combo of B and A. B has a tendency to lead to A eventually if it works as intended.

I'd go for all 3 I think..
