Hacking Ships

The hacking scanner could be a weapon/scanner gun which could target players when they at low health.

Basically it has two M.O:
Firstly, its could hack into a players cargo hold and show you what is inside. Then, you could see if they have anything valuable. If they don't, there's not much point in wasteing your energy in trying to bring it down. If they do have something you want, you know it would be worth the risk. This would save pirates alot of time and efficiency.

The second m.o could allow players to target weakened ships and hack once again into they're cargo hold. Once the hacking is complete, the player hacking could be able to jettison one (or more depending on the strength on the beam) object from the cargo hold of the player being hacked. The beam could also harvest a number (big or small, once again depending on the beam) of credits from the ships which would also be downloaded straight to the hackers account.

With this technology, people could become proffesional hackers, and rely on the income they gather. This reminds me of traditional thievery in fantasy mmo's.

I like the first 2/3rds of the idea (discreetly viewing cargo and jettisoning a little bit of it); NO on stealing credits though - absolutely not in any way, shape, or form. A character's value should have at least 2 storage possiblities -- in this case credits and goods. Goods are the not-safe storage mechanism; they can benefit from inflation, but they can be lost during transport, can possibly stolen at some point, and they cannot be sold for equivalent value at the place they were bought/created. Credits are the safe option; they suffer from inflation, but no one can steal them from you and they travel with you in their safety in their entirety.

- I would suggest a 600kg small port and 1300kg large port hacking equipment, the small port could force-eject 1 unit of something and the large port could force-eject 2 units (regardless of CU, or should those units be CU?). They would operate like a mining beam, requiring you to stay within 50-200m of your target, displaying a progress bar, and taking 2-9 seconds (number ranges for different models and Mks).
- When complete, you are given access to the victim's jettison menu through your PDA (in case there is a fight breaking out) with the number of units you may eject in the top-right; attempting to eject too may units of something will result in the ejection of as many units as you could eject being ejected. As soon as you eject anything, the victim will receive a "cargo ejected" notice (no mention of who did it).
- There should either not be a visible hacking beam, or (my preferece) it should be VERY small/thin and discreet, like a single half-sized, 100m/s positron bolt each second. :D

[Edit: Oh, and if you hack a disabled ship then it is instantaneous and you can jettison whatever you want. /Edit]

I/m not sure I like the idea of disabled.

Also NO to money hacking. Or if you implemented it then we need banks. As it stands right now there is no safe way to store your money, it would really suck if people could steal it.

As for the jettisonning of cargo, sure why not. But how esy is it to remain close to a moth flying at max speed? Why bother, most would simply blwo it outa da sky...
