Faction Unique Ships

Mar 29, 2007 Jim Kirk link
I just realized, that besides the Raptor, there are no other faction uniquely desined ships. I'd like to see unique designs for different factions, and have some of them used for specific purposes that are currently unoccupied.

...like what? I'm sure that as the universe becomes a more complex place, where there are more tasks to fill, new ships will fill those tasks. Have patience! (..unlike me..)

Well, like the TPG Corp. Prototype, other factions should have prototypes that don't really have a "set role" yet. The prototypes should be severly limited at first, and possibly developed according to what the user-base suggests. Pretty much, I'd like to see ships, fly around in their "crappy prototype versions" and then vote on which aspects of it should be improved.

I think this could mark a new era of ship development. If we all could suggest changes before the ship is actually implemented, then the devs shouldn't have to change it too much when it finally comes to the point where it has to be buffed, or nerfed.

There are faction unique ships for almost every faction already. We already have mauds, TDs, SVGs, IBGs, RevCs, Valks, Proms, Aggressos, X-varients, Biovults and a Wraith.

No no no, Cunjo. I mean the design of it. Like as in, it's not used anywhere else kind of "unique". Like it's a Camaro, not a Ferrari. The Raptor is the only ship that is like that.

you're forgetting the Axia Wraith, Prometheus and Valkyrie. And the Maud is unique to the UIT, just not to any specific corporation.

Lol, thats what I mean, to a specific faction, not nation. TPG is the only one right now, with the Raptor.

P.S. the Wraith is ded. D.E.D. DED...

Alot of the small basic ship designs have probably permeated throughout the known universe already, especially considering TPG's role in most of them. There's not really much of a use for tiny ships, and they all work more or less the same way anyways, so it would seem logical for 'factions' to just use the available variants, which are good enough for their job, instead of using up resources in design.

Large ships are another story. They can do many more things that these one person guys can't. I'll bet when Cap-ship production gets rolling, you'll see the different variants you have in mind.

While I understand where you're coming from Mynt, it just doesn't make sense. In reality, there would be thousands of different models of ships. I'm simply assuming the population size to the scale of the storyline. Humans had enough time to colonize a crap load of planets, and actually evolve.

I'm just suggesting that there be more unique ships. I don't care if they are "rinky dink pieces of crap" I'd rather see them being used for various odd-jobs and such. I prefer that factions have their own unique ships based on their technological strengths and such.

For BioCom - A ship that uses Biotechnology to conceal itself and appear like an asteroid.

Valent - A ship that uses some kind of loading arm that assists in holding large amounts of cargo without even adding it to its cargo bay.

Orion - should actually manufacture "many popular ships and weapons". There should Orion weapon variants. There should be more than just the Orion Rev C, and Orion Convoy Guardian as variants for popular ships. It should produce Orion variants of the EC, Atlas, Warthog, Vulture, Revenant, and Behemoth.

Axia - same as Orion, their ships differ, but they still need to be "diverse" like the site says they are in terms of the ships they manufacture.

Corvus Prime - Should have more "pirate" type ships, and possibly missiles that travel faster than 160m/s cruising speed (meant to kill Moths).

Xang Xi - Could distribute parts like it currently does, but these parts should be cool automated add-ons for say Auto-Pilot, or different rockets(flares) that can explode at the push of a button, rather than proximity (<-- stole it from another thread).

Tunguska Heavy Mining Concern - Mining Stuff duhhh. They should manufacture and sell Cooling Beams, not to mentions more mining beams, and possibly better small-port mining beams.

Aeolus and Ineubis are currently worthless. Hopefully that will change in the near future.

Kirk, your ideas are based on the assumption that all these competitive ship designing groups were given a fair start. Maybe Biocom doesn't know how to build ships at all. Maybe TPG are the only guys besides the Serco and Itani that have that sort of technology. (And Coruvs...) What makes you think they'd be so eager to share with other splinter corporations? No doubt mass produced ships can be reverse engineered, and copied, but new designs that could actually compete with TPG? I'd sooner expect the Macintosh market to beat out Windows.

Following my train of thought, most small ships are almost identical anyways. They all function like fighters, with varying degrees of speed and such what. They're almost certainly built as efficiently as possible, and there's not a whole lot of room to make improvements without vast advances in technology. Larger ships however, might have alot more space to play around with. That's why they can have shields. Maybe docking bays too, or cloaking devices, or two or three of those, and to varying degrees of each. Get it?

Read the wiki. They can build ships.

I'm not saying they share. They do, but I don't care if they keep their ships to themselves, and you (the consumer) has to go to their stations to get that particular model.

Aeolus Trading actually has one of the best barracks near Sedina.

Great... nothing is known about that faction, yet they have good barracks for some reason. All the more reason update the factions system. Thank you Steve...
