i think the valk should be back up to 12k because it is a special ship and it should have some advantages.

and it still has a huge advantage.

Now the Hornet can kill a Valk in 10 seconds. Quad-rockets and only 1k less health.

if the hornet can turn

If you can't catch my hint of shut your mouth about a ship everyone has been complaining about since day one, then go away. ;-P

Roguelazer, the problem isn't the Hornet. The problem is weapon balance. Those damn sunflares fire like a machinegun (2 per second!). The gauss cannon (slower), tachyons (no change), and gravitons (quicker) need balancing as well. Before we start criticizing ships, look for patterns in the weapons that some of these people use. You'll notice that 95% of the time they'll either be using all guass, all sunflares, or a combo of both. While 3.2.7 has improved ship diversity among players, weapon usage remains the same. The weapons themselves are at fault here

I personally like to use a quad graviton Hornet. Battles last a long time with them and it makes the game fun for me. The only time I ever use quad sunflares is to kill other rocket rammers. It's not something I enjoy doing but sometimes it's necessary with the way the weapons are right now. Once they're balanced properly I think a lot of these complaints will go away. Just give it some time. The Valkyrie's hull needs to be kept low to compensate for its insanely high agility. Otherwise everyone will use it all the time all over again.

SL: It's supposed to have 1 S slot and cost 63000!

Arolte: And that is worse than everyone using the Hornet HOW? I've seen almost 100% hornets since 3.2.7. It's INSANE!

I think the problem with gauss is the wide bolt it fires.

yeah right.

Dunno what you're smokin' there, buddy, but I'm seeing a lot of Vultures and Valks. I've only encountered Whistler flying the Hornet. And believe it or not, the quad sunflare config was available BEFORE the agility fix. Once again, let me repeat the this is a weapon issue, NOT a ship issue. Reducing the agility of the Hornet will nerf it down once again. And accept the fact that the Valkyrie isn't going to have a 100% success rate forever. Each ship will eventually have certain advantages and disadvantages, with unique roles to fit various situations.

Oh, and the Hornet still has a reticule that wobbles a lot. Try it out if you don't believe me. It's certainly easier to aim than before, but it is by no means flawless. Give a Valk and Hornet energy weapons only and have 'em fight one on one (assuming both pilots are of equal skill). You know which one will win almost always? The Valkyrie ship. Just because there are some Hornet rocket rammers out there doesn't mean they should nerf the Hornet down. That's just ruining it for the rest of us who choose NOT to abuse rocket ramming.

I said it was a weapon issue when yall were complaining about the prom being overpowered(due to dual sunflares) but did you listen to me? NOOO now yall complain about the weapons.. yesh

however, aside from myself(and scuba steve when he tried to rocket ram me in one) have I seen a hornet in 3.2.7, yet valks are still out in force, but people are running from you should you bump them though.. dont seem to want to lose it and have to trek back to sector 18 i guess.

valk is finally at a good place as far as balance, for the time being anyway

Well, I don't know what any of you guys (or the Devs) have been smoking or drinking, but it all comes down to this: The Valkyrie has fewer weapons ports than a Hornet (Cr7000) the same agility as a Centurion (Cr1200) and costs Cr21,000. You "Devs" have taken a Corvette and turned it into a Pinto, WITHOUT lowering the price to a more realistic Cr4000. If you can't restore the Valk to it's former glory, why not throw it out, and design a TRUE "premium" ship for the Itani Nation????????
Jun 19, 2003 cembandit link
The valk is still a monster. Heck I wouldnt mind if the valk lost a weapon port and stayed at 10k, Id still use it.
Jun 19, 2003 SirCamps link
The valk still is a very agile and deadly ship.

My beef now is with the Prometheus vs. Ragnarok. Right now, the Rag holds the edge. I don't mind the Prometheus being short-changed weapon-wise, but to give it the same armor as the old Maurader is pretty ridiculous!

Now I'm sure you're going to complain about balance issues, but the Prometheus is supposed to be a lumbering, heavy ship. Now, it seems like a Maurader on steroids.

I would rather have seen the Ragnarok up near ~35k HP, and the Prometheus at ~30k HP, with only slightly better maneuverability.

RattMann, one thing you need to understand is that agility plays a huge factor in winning fights. Make a ship highly agile and add a lot of hull points and you've got yourself a virtually invincible ship. If a ship is already hard to it, why does it need to be strong? How is that fair to everyone else? Right now the Valkyrie ship can do circles around the Hornet and can continuously hit it with triple gauss cannon quite easily. The Hornet pilot will struggle to keep a bead on the Valkyrie BECAUSE of its lower agilty. Those four s-ports aren't going do you a hell of any good if you can't get a clear shot with 'em.

If there's a problem with a Hornet easily taking down a Valkyrie ship, chances are it involves a weapon with very good aimbot (Gauss) or a weapon with proximity detonation, high damage, and high repeat rate (Sunflares). Because there's an extremely good chance that the Valkyrie will win a battle with the Hornet if any other weapons are used. Have a few energy weapon duels in s7 with a buddy against a Valkyrie while using a Hornet. After that, reverse the role so they're the ones flying the Hornet and you're the one flying the Valkyrie. Then come back and post your results.

/me lets out a long, deep sigh as he wonders if anyone will truly grasp the concept of balance.

Are we going to demand that the frigate be nerfed when it is player-controlled? Why can't you people accept the roles of fighters and the need of having more than one ship to take down certain others?

"The Valkyrie has fewer weapons ports than a Hornet (Cr7000) the same agility as a Centurion (Cr1200) and costs Cr21,000."

Well, sure, but the Valkyrie has more hull points and weapons than the Centurian; more hull points, more weapons, and better agility than the Vulture; and better agility than the Hornet.

Let me ask you, if the Valkyrie isn't the premium light fighter, where is the premium light fighter?

I for one am happy that the difference between ships has been toned down to a more reasonable level. Remember X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter? *shudder* No, it is definately better to have alot of good ships than a few best ships.

"I would rather have seen the Ragnarok up near ~35k HP, and the Prometheus at ~30k HP, with only slightly better maneuverability."

*shudder*

I think that there is a prevasive 'player's perspective' motivating alot of you. You remind me of my power gamers at the D&D table. Everyone is always trying to argue for every little advantage that thier ship can get so that it will fulfill some powerful image of themselves using this ship that they have in thier heads. But, the result of this is people always arguing to keep the power of the ship they like and arguing to nerf everything that they don't. Can we please try to have something closer to a 'DM's perspective', that is to say asking for things that are going to be fair to everyone rather than what will make something 'cewl'. If you were a newbie that didn't know about the old Valk, Prom, and Maud, I gaurantee you'd still find them 'premium ships'. It's not like they've been nerfed. All three are 'small ships +1' (maybe even +2). They don't have to be 'Unholy +5 small ships of Everything Slaying'. Can we excercise some caution in our suggestion making? It's always easier to ramp up somethings power than it is to take it away once you've given it. Can we make our suggestions with perhaps a little worry in them - is this going to be a 'god weapon' that everyone is going to use? Is this going to defacto be the only weapon in the game? Would I be perfectly happy being attacked by NPC's that use this weapon?

I tell you what, let's see what you think of the Valk when every bot in a sector uses one and has triple gauss and locks onto you from 3000m away. Let's see what you think of the Prom when the bots fly them in triples like the 350's but with advanced gauss and gemini's. Would you really want those Proms to have 30k h.p. then?
