Railgun and Charged Cannon...

...Need to be a lot better if ppl are ever going to use them. These are both great concepts, but when was the last time you saw someone using either one?

Forgive the analogy, but since one is the equivalent of a sniper rifle and the other is the equivalent of a shotgun, I would recommend making them both l-port weapons, especially the charged cannon. A small, weak, s-port just doesn't seem to be the spirit of the charged cannon. I see it as more of a BFG, where you keep someone busy with your smaller weapons while charging up, and then unload the big-time whammy. Make it l-port, double the charging rate and maximum damage and you will see more people using it.

As for the railgun, this also doesn't make sense as a small, grouped energy weapon. It's not very efficient and doesn't have much overall firepower. If I had the choice between a rail gun or a tachyon I would choose tachyon every time. I can understand it needing to be an s-port so that smaller, more agile ships can use it for sniping, but it just doesn't get the job done. Make it an l-port, (the warthog would be able to use it) more expensive, and multiply speed and damage by 150%.

It should be noted that a Hornet equipped with quad charged cannons can be an easy instant kill config. I'd hate to see the charge rate or projectile of it go any higher.

Just give the railgun more range. THe current 500m isn't enough.

Some weapons might not be designed for fighter-to-fighter combat. If an energy weapon is too slow to hit a fighter, attack ship or bomber it might be more suited toward firing on larger, slower ships which do not yet exist in the game.
