Buckshot for Vendetta? =P
hmmmm theres enough space between them that you could fly through.....
Umm, sounds a lot like the swarms to me. Unless they have no homing, in which case it's a good idea. It'll be like a shotgun. They would have to make the explosion small though.
Nice to see a weapon posted where the problem isn't that it would be too good.
You could actually just about quadruple the damage and still be fine.
(I'm assuming here that they don't seek thier target.)

This would be fun to fire into a large group. Have a few ships with these suckers on them in the nation wars. Daaamn.
I say up the damage to 500 each, up the splash radius to 100.
THis is a more of a fleet damage weapon, not meant for duels but more meant for damaging a large number of ships.
Also assuming they don't seak.

You can get close to owning a flak cannon by using a quad graviton config on the Hornet. Although it's not as big of a spread, it's still pretty damn lethal and has a slow firing rate. I certainly hope they don't change the graviton back to its mini-gatling gun prototype, 'cause it's a damn fun weapon to use now for sharpshooters.
ya they dont seek, and ambye if we ever get frigates we can have turrets shooting this, and Arolte, I have no idea what your tlking about :P Gravs arent good flak :P
Flak: 100 dmg per shot, 9 shots per round, 3 second reload.
quad-graviton: 800 dmg per shot, 4 shots per round, .20 second reload.
Similarities: None that i can see.

Like I said, it's the closest you can get for now, with the current weapons provided. But anyway, I think the flak cannon should be more lethal for such a slow reload rate. I was thinking more along the lines of 200 dmg per shot.
200 x 9 = 1800 for 3.0 sec reload
800 x 4 = 3200 for 0.2 sec reload
The gravitons will almost always kill a person with a flak cannon, especially since it's more accurate. Even with my proposed 100 dmg increase. Ouch.

Gravitons are nothing like a flak cannon. A flak cannon is basically a gatling that stores up its shots and fires them all at once rather than steadily over a certain period. The defining trait of both is _inaccuracy_. You fire a random spread over an area in hopes that you won't have to exactly aim the spray in order to get some hits.
You can kinda do a flak cannon with a warthog with the normal gatling, but the normal gatling is sorta like the ion blaster - its only advantage is that it is cheap.
The main reason I wanted a flak cannon was as a small slot version of the gatling. This idea is cool too though. It's different in that the munitions are prox explosives and its still reasonably balanced in that the weapon is in a large slot and doesn't do much damage (indeed probably does too little). So maybe the non-explosive version could be the 'flak cannon' and the explosive version could be the 'heavy flak cannon', or something like that.

Actually, the normal gatling does the same amount of damage as the advanced on a per second basis, for less energy, great if you want to take out large slow ships like the frigate, but how long the shots last should increase by a few seconds.
i think they should give it an even faster rps rate and make it into a small
Wait, do these 'flak' rockts fire out in a cone from the firing point? or does a grid of them magically apear along the guns plane? (means longer distance = wider spread. if cone shaped.)
hrmmm....Id say it would go in a cone shape goign away from each other 1m/10m travelled so each blast would be 50m away cfrom each other when it goes to its max range. mabye up the damage to 500 too
1500 damage per second? but only if you get hit by ALL the missiles?
one missile would only do 166.666666666666 damage per second
EDIT: I just realized that at maximum range the explosion(if it was a square) would cover aprox. 22500m^2 of an area, even though the sides would only be 150m long o.0

A flak cannon that shoots explosive projectiles in a cone....
I love this idea. Yup, I just love it.
