Safe Zone
prolly 80% of us are (ex?) elite/frontier players.

Anyone remember running like hell for the station in 'Elite' looking for that big S to appear in the corner of the radar.
To prevent or at least discourage stn mining / nuking /those nasty station campers you could use the old 'Elite' 'safe zone' idea around each station. This would also give traders a fighting chance ( if thats the right phrase )
Perhaps 500m round each stn could be a safe zone, any persons firing weapons IN or INTO the zone would then be 'attacked' by the station police.
The HeavyDef bots from the home sectors could be used as a model as they seem pretty effective, though of course there would be no colour descrimination outside your own sectors.

The devs actually said that they were going to implement this very idea. If you fire into or out of the "no fire zone" you get attacked by bots.
errr how can you eject someone if they've already logged off?

you can destroy players ship in hostile station and send them back to where they belong (and if they were home in that sector they can go home). you can also let ship drift off from station without controls.
I prefer Elite on Spectrum, especially Elite3 by Kladov. That particular version had extra functionality, more quests, new ships, more weapons. mmmm, that is good, i am going to play it now and get captured by Thargoids mid hyperjump ;)

Short feature list from Kladov's Elite3 (zx spectrum):
- station defences (shoot station and be killed without right to dock)
- police escorts for trade ships (some stations would meet you half way through sector and destroy all pirates)
- new small defence ship Mamba that Pythons can launch when attacked
- your hyperjump sometimes can be interrupted and you have to fight Thargoids in hyperspace.
- you can boost your way from system to system without using jumps
- you can buy Cobra MK-4 in double stations
- mineral life can be extracted from some "live" asteroids.
- 4 new missions. Mineral life, Cloaking device, Alien computer and Space Wars.
