Roleplaying Enforcement

There's an article over at slashdot right now, and somebody posted a comment I found quite interesting...

" Moderated MMO's? (Score:2, Interesting)

Are there any MMO's out there that have community or operator based moderation? (i.e. a way to tell if people are good role players, or just don't care.) It would seem that you could divide most game universes into two - one for real role players and another for everyone else who just wants to chat. If you step out of character one too many times the system operators could warn you; and if the behavior continues, they'd simply kick you from the 'Real RPG' universe to the 'Big Chat Room' universe. You'd still have fun playing the game the way you want to play it, but you're not interfering with those who want to play it differently."

Imagine if Vendetta had two different servers. You would start out in the "Real RPG" server, but if you were out of character a lot, you would get moved to the "Big Chat Room" server (this would require more guides than are on now). Conversely, you could start out in the "Big Chat Room" server (there could be an option, for those who want to chat and those who don't), and if you roleplayed a lot (or behaved really well or something), a guide could give you the option to moving to the "Real RPG" server. Also, the "Real RPG" server should probably be more heavily moderated than the "Big Chat Room" server, since non-roleplayers would be a big pain...

My automatic way to handle any roleplay only game or server is simple. I roleplay a mute guy with mental issues. Then I just dont talk and kill everything anyways.

Errrm.... I hate to bust your bubble but,

"Will the game be split among multiple "servers clusters", each supporting a unique game universe?

No. We intend to support a single game universe contiguously across all servers. In other words, the entire population of the game will interact in the same universe, not be split into different "server universes" as it is in EverQuest and other MMOs. This brings about some potential technical challenges, to which we believe we have good solutions. "
