No mining near Stations

Jul 21, 2003 RedDracollion link
I heard many people complain about this one... I hate when people mine the stations... I think there should be a radius were you cant mine...really... this is one thing that happened to me... I went out off s7 and the place was so much mined that i had to wait hours to get out of s7. So what do you think...should there be a radius about mining near the station...

it is being taking care of by safety zone around station to come in 3.3 (?)
if you place a mine in that zone you will no longer be able to dock with station and will have station defences target you.

Sorry I'm just a newbie but can't you blow up the mines with firing at them?
Jul 22, 2003 RedDracollion link
Randomize: Ok...that is a good idea....

Zarchun: Yes you can blow up the mines but if there like 10 of them around the station you have no time...and for me ... I dont have the money to re-buy ships over and over again...

I also don't understand why the nuke doesn't set off mines. I mean it's the perfect de-mining weapon.

i think that any mines that are at least 500m away from the station can be blown up automatically because i was going to 11 station and this kid executor mined the station the when i tried to enter he put mines in the middle and killed me bfor i could dock and i could barely even see the station he kept mininins so i ran for my life to the station but he just mined more even when i came out he would mine and kill me down to 13% everytime so i want that new thing where anything within 500m from the station will be blown up and bots will come after the person who mined except s17 that should be the only station where u can mine because not many people go there but others mine the station because they are very bad at the game or just wanna piss others off and make a lot of enemies so i can tell u everyone who mines is already my enemy. i wouldnt mind if they did it for like 10 minutes and then blew all of the mines up but these people just mine and keep mining and when the 15 mins are up there are quadruple of what they made before so i am just saying if u are reading this post and u already started mining stop it because all u do is piss others off and make enemies. and also i dont like the the nukers either the nukes should have a 300m radius so if someone plans on nuking the station the nuke will disinigrate into little tiny sand grains so the nuke cannot be used.

wow

Nukes used to demine, and then they stopped. It'll be fixed soon.

The devs have said that they're going to fix this by having some stations with AI that enforces a no-mine zone, no-nuke zone, or no-fire. Probably won't happen for a while, maybe it'll happen during some 3.3.x, since they're upgrading the AI system for 3.3.0.

I tried reading this thread, but found it really painful. Could we please try to express ourselves a little more clearly - for example, with complete sentences?

First of all, station mining is not much of a problem once you get a little experience. Virtually any minefield can be escaped if you know what you are doing. Not only that, but it only occurs regularly in a relatively few number of sectors (7,9 and 15). This is because the NPC's will target and destroy mines they encounter, and the defences near a factions station will destroy any mine layed in thier range. So if you are really worried about station mining, don't dock at station 7,9 or 15 and especially don't log out there.

Most people that die to station mining do so because they don't pay enough attention to thier radar and run right over a mine without even seeing it. Keep alert. Yellow dots are bad. If you jump into a sector and see alot of yellow dots and you have even the slightest doubt about your skills, just go somewhere else.

However, everyone is well aware that despite this 'station mining' (the term can mean different things to different people) annoys the heck out of new players (and even some of the older ones).

There are a varity of near to long term things that will change that will tend to make station mining much less prevalent.

First, in the near term, all stations - even nuetral ones - are likely to acquire turret defences and will destroy mines laid in thier range.

In the longer term, laying mines or firing weapons near stations other than those of your faction is likely to be construed as a hostile act, negatively affecting your reputation, and exposing you to penalties such as fines, bounties being placed on you, hostility by the NPC's of that faction, and being banned from docking at stations controlled by that faction.

Johnsm712 my advice to you is to proofread.

Secondly, yes mines are annoying, but they are part of the game. Basically, learn to dodge the yellow dots. Be alert every time you leave the station. If you see yellow dots just turbo straight out as far and as fast as you can. It's simple to dodge them unless there is a battle going on.

"wow Nukes used to demine, and then they stopped. It'll be fixed soon."

This makes me very, very happy :D.

Celebrim, 13 can also be mined easly as the bots dont really come near the station unless tempted by a target. the real problem with this are ins ectors 7 and 13, where you only have two docking ports.

you can mine out so that they will still be in the field even after invul wears off, and since turboing to the side takes time to orientate your targetjust a few mines in those directions will result in the target still be in rangein all directions

sorry if i am unclear, i just woke up and finsihed reading 3 of Johnsm712's posts.. my head hurts.. and it seems its contagious

Mines are annoying. Why? Well, to demine you have to use energy weapons. However, EVERY SINGLE MINER I'VE EVER FACED carries rockets in their small bay[s]. So you can either demine or kill the miner, but doing both is darned near impossible. Especially if you're like me and only use the bus when in minefields.
