Sunflares and Valks, once again they grace the forums... *sigh*

Compromise. 5m and I'll agree to it. :D But limit to 10 per launcher or 20 per ship, which ever is less, for ammo.

You guys want the rockets nerfed. Who in their right mind would fire a rocket moving nearly as fast a ship. You're making it more of a mine than a rocket.

To make weapons effective, they must be hard to dodge. Not a simple barrel-roll. I mean hard!! When you're in firing range, the battle should be nearly over.

A valk wants to dance around a Rag dodging gats? Those gats should be moving around 400 m/s. That would make taking a rag on 1v1 nigh on impossible.

I see Gravs traveling around 400 m/s, Tachs at 350 m/s, and Gauss at 250 m/s.

The point is, enough of these peashooter weapons that fire so slowly you can watch the bolt travel past. I want real speed.

The "Frigate" is a capital class ship and it would be illogical for a single ship to be able to kill it however the valk is just a fighter class ship and one fighter should be able to kill another and while "advanced" technology would be an advantage it shouldn't be THE deciding factor in combat.

and then sircamps, you will be the first to complain.

For the record, I dont want them to go that fast.

The speed of the rockets is good, they oly need a smaller prox, for the rest everythig is good. 10 - 15m prox is nice, and it is smaller then the large pod rockets.

And yes differentiation between energy weapons would be cool, but just give the tach a speed of 200 while the grav has one of 180 and the gauss one of 160 - 170. Just to compensate a little bit for the differnce in damage.

cheers

fast weapons will probably mean that backstabbing will work 95% of the time.
it also means slower ships are pretty much doomed.

Not if you up their armor significantly.

Backstabbing? Who's turning their back on a hostile anyways?

sircamps,

so first you say that you need to up the speed, then you say before that is balanced we need to up the hull, what is next ?

Another large port on the prom maybe or what you think of jus 3 large ports and no small ones.

just stop inventing things and make small adjustements to the problems, and dont create extra problems.

cheers

Who would turn their back? Try a trader. Unlike you all, I don't really like combat. I'd be really happy without it all. I think that if a trader could run without being shot by weapons that can go 2x as fast as him -when they are fired from a standstill-, that'd be nice.

So, if I can sprint at 20 MPH, an enemy's gun should fire no faster than 40 MPH (58 feet per second)? You realize, that paintball guns fire rounds in excess of 300 FPS, which is 204 MPH, which is roughly 10 times the speed of a sprinter.

A ship can "sprint" up to 200 m/s, so to follow the analogy accurately, weapons could travel as fast as 2000 m/s. I'm hardly calling for that. Currently, an average cargo ship won't get past 170 m/s. The fastest weapon (sunflares) can travel at 200+55=) 255 m/s. That is only 1.50 times faster.

That would be akin to a paintball gun firing at 44 feet per second.

Tachyons gauss, and whatnot travel at 180, which is only 1.06 times faster than boosting ship (@ 170 m/s). A paintball gun at this speed would clock only 29.3 feet per second.

What are you getting at Camps? Are you saying energy weapons should be faster? Generally paintball is not played with the opponnent 100 meters away from you. You'll be across a field, behind cover. Simulated ground based infantry combat and simulated space combat are two different things.

Point is, that if you have your enemy in your sights, he should not be able to perform a simple maneuver to dodge your shot. For gauss to be effective, you have to get within 200m of a target. Even at 100m, a skilled barrel-roller can dodge shots, as he has .5 seconds to maneuver.

but gauss isn't rockets! (stay on topic)
paintballs... ok... distance... AND... paintballs don't have prox.

They could just increase the energy weapon velocity to 220m/s and see what it's like.
