Multiple Firing Modes...

Oct 26, 2003 Smurfy link
Well, there is one thing that I really miss from other space games. Having multiple firing modes, and being able to change them.

Mode one. All at once. Fires all Weapons in group at once.
Mode 2. 50/50. For even numbers, fires half weapons, then other half.
Mode 3, rotating. Fires one weapon at a time as quickly as firing rate allows rotation.

This is something for energy weapons. Increases the firing rate quite a lot, while dealing lower damage in turn by not firing all the weapons at once.

You could also have 50/50 mode for 3 weapons if you wanted, firing, left/right. Then Front.. then left/right.

This is a very good idea.

hmm... as you can already increase the rate of fire, i think this isn't really necessary. agreed, you have to time it, but i still don't think this change is important to be implemented immediately.

With the current setup, weapon groupings come close to the idea you are after Smurfy, but I can see how they don't do exactly what you're after. I too think it would be a good idea, especially with low rate of fire weapons. For high rate of fire weapons, the advantage isn't as great in my eyes, but exists nonetheless.

Having a tri-tach gatling config would enable you to keep an almost constant beam on fire on your target. It you intersected its flight path you would be guaranteed a hit. I like it.

I should also note that the linking weapon ports is broken right now. It 3.2.0 whenever you had very little energy left (enough to fire), only the middle ports fired. In other words the middle ports got the highest priority, and then the side ones did. Right now the last port to fire with remaining energy is on either the left or right side of the ship. This not only creates ugly and uneven shooting, but it also screws with your aiming too. Just thought I'd report this minor glitch. Fix those port priorities!

Yarr. If aliasing +shootx didn't keep on shooting after ye lifted yer finger, ye could make a toggle which would switch between yer primary, secondary and tertiary fire every time ye'd press the fire button. T'wouldn't work now of-course, seeing how making an alias with a shoot command in it never terminates.
