Thrust booster addon
This would be cool as a large port add on or as both a large and small port version. I see it as something that would require at least ten grid power and provide meaningful thrust boost in both normal and turbo flight. Naturally, if there was a small port version it would have less additional effect. Note: this would not increase speed, merely acceleration. I suggest a grid power of ten so that two may be equipped to a ship like a moth for better handling under heavy loads.
Interesting idea. However I would not waste weapon slots on this and propose a new engine addition slot.
Ideally it could be an 'afterburner' that kicks (doubles) acceleration for 10 sec until it's depleted.
Once afterburner charge is depleted, it takes 1-2 min to recharge so it can be used again.
Make them in range from capital, heavy to light class afterburners so they can be used on a variety of ships (excluding greyhound that already has insane acceleration).

-1 we can already choose whether we want additional acceleration, infinite turbo, or additional top speed by picking the type of ship we fly and which variant of that ship we choose.

I'm with biretak on this one. Moths are supposed to be slow to accelerate. If you don't like it, stop overloading them. We have the mass system in place for a reason.

I need to borrow 800cu of samo so I can determine if a trident full of samo is as funny as a moth full of samo.
Use 396 Trident batteries ya wuss!
I remember when we had replaceable engines....it was a complete mess so devs removed it but...
it was great fun flying IBG with a SCP engine :)
And I still think this 'afterburner' could add some spice to the gameplay if balanced properly.
Heck you can install 'afterburners' in cars and jet planes for a long time now why shouldn't this be possible in VO?
All VO ships are limited with their top speed and 'afterburner' would not change that, it could just add some short acceleration burst you can use in a critical moment, for instance, xc jumping in ion storm and using afterburner to get away from bots or interceptor using afterburner to catch a fleeing heavy ship. There is a myriad of situations this addition could enhance the gameplay and if it can be installed on every ship then it will just become a matter of pilots skill - when and how to use it.

I'd be willing to sacrifice turrets to make my trident go faster.
This could be fun.
I like the trident full of samo idea :D
Trident full of samo=roid.
The reason I suggested it be an addon is that you would have to choose between more thrust and weapons.
im diggin this concept...but it would only work if it were balanced right, otherwise it could end up messing up many other already balanced things...not even to mention how easy it already is to escape someone
