And the Hog MK II and the Direwolf...by fixing the generic port issue.

These are fast, infiniboost ships...they are not supposed to be bombers. Make their L-ports "energy-only", unable to equip rockets, torpedos, or missiles. Idiots whining about bombers and "swarm & run" seem to be why we can't have nice things, so let's take bombing/swarming out of the fucking equasion.

-1. and btw the direwolf doesnt exist

+1 and I don't acknowledge greenwall existing.

I forgot to add there is already a place for people who are saddened by swarms. I think we should allow the existing therapeutic support systems to accommodate this situation and not nerf a good, well balanced ship so that Lecter can "feel" like he strengthened an argument supporting one of his suggestion posts.

The hound has too much torque, its been overbuffed and it needs a straight stat nerf, we should be looking at stats similar to its original incarnation frankly.

Look, I understand that the simplest solution appears to be "special case this thingie to make it work the way we think it should work", but that's not very compatible with development. We have generic ports, they are a reality. Why not stay within the mechanics of what we already have, to try and resolve the issue that is being raised.

For instance, what if the L-port was made into a S-port, and whatever particular addon was intended for the L-port maybe had a nerfed S-port variant of it created? That's something that can be done without any actual code changes at all.

Or, is there some tweak that can be done to powercell grid-power to limit infiniboost to being mutually exclusive with heavy guided missiles? That can also be done without code changes. It might have some ramifications beyond the Hound, but it might still be a viable tradeoff.

I would really prefer things that don't require code changes, or minimize them. It also makes them far more likely to.. happen.

Granted, code-free changes aren't always an option (quite rarely, for that matter); but in situations like this that seem pretty close to existing game-balance knobs, lets try finding a simpler way if we can?

Orrrrrrr... Address the root cause of the problem where such a small, fast ship has as much turbo thrust as a heavy cargo transport?

Adding one hundred newtons of thrust was an insane buff and it made no sense even when it was done. Torque doesn't matter for something whose game-breaking capacity comes from acceleration, not turning.

Sorry whiners, it was designed as an Interceptor, not a toy for you station-conquering trader shits.

A whiner created this post, Lecter. That said, personally I wouldn't be opposed to making the hound 2s ported, but adding new small port versions of large port add ons is not a good idea and not necessary. I like how it would make the UDV more exclusive.

But, I'd prefer to keep the hound as is. People whining about swarm hounds can preferably suck it and go play a different game.

An S-port version of the Mega Posi would be an excellent addition for a Pirate alignment if one is ever created. In the meantime, fix the Hound by swapping the L-port for an S-port. Then we can stop hearing bullshit objections to improving its chasing ability grounded in "think of how gamebreaking it would be for bombing!"

Let's leave the Hog Mk II the way it is - will leave an infiniboost option for L-ported ships and create some much-needed distinction between it and the Hound.

Yesss. I like this.

+1 2S port hound.
Jan 02, 2016 TheRedSpy link
Hound still needs a nerf to torque. Especially if it isn't intended to be using the heavier L-Port addons. Corresponding torque decrease is appropriate.

+1 to make it a single S port with an built-in Mega Positron Blaster and cargo scanner ship.
Hog II is enough to be used with other setup.

+1 to any of the suggestions made. I particularly like the single port with the built in mega posi concept.

Oh and in case folks have forgotten there have been swarm runners long before the greyhound was a twinkle in the Good Dr's eye. The hog 2 and even the atlas x have been nearly unstoppable when used for this purpose in the past. A pursuit ship with the inability to use missiles itself actually gives players a better chance of dealing with the problem.

The problem with the hound, is that it has both great acceleration, and great turbo speed, to the point that no other ship can intercept or catch it. It should have great turbo speed, it is a hound. But it should not have great acceleration. If it drops out of turbo to swarm someone, there should be a period of vulnerability, where some slower, but faster accelerating ship can intercept it and kill it.

+1, same as fluffy.

I frequently have X-1s magically catch my hound in a straight line run after I fly past them they turn and then catch me. And before you tell me its vectoring, I know what it is and how it works but when the other ship is almost directly behind you on radar that can shoot at you it's not vectoring.

It would make more sense for swarms to only be able to target turrets, caps hips, queens and levies

"If it drops out of turbo to swarm someone"

You can fire swarms just fine without dropping out of turbo.
