I vote keep it the way it is. Capping has presented more problems then it has sovled. I love having a challenge, but if it presents this many problems it would probably be better to eventualy take it out.

Give the capper 3 mil. or something instead of 500k, then you have something to fight for

500k IS something to fight for.
Still thinking of what to do with mine...

I think that every member of the faction that is online should get like 100 creds for a cap if their faction caps it. I dunno, but it'd be a nice way of rewarding the faction...and don't think this is a blue person saying this, I am, and always shall be Gold...

100c. Wow. That means that everyone can fire one rocket without overexpending their budget. I generally give out 50,000c to all my teammates on a cap...

Rogue. I disagree that capping needs to be changed back. I could live with upping the reward to the flag carrier to 750k or a mil to spread around, but i got sick of seeing 20 or 30 inactive itanis when there was a cap going on. Being rewarded for doing nothing while one or two players did all the work seems unfair to me. Now if you like having a bunch of cash leeches living off of your hard work.. hey thats fine by me.

Now the defense money definitely needs to go. there is no reason that the defending team should get money for a failed cap at this time. When we discussed altering the cap rewards on the boards the other day.. it never got brought up because no one thought of it. I have absolutely no problem with getting rid of it.

My understanding is that the primary reason of having super defense bots is to protect newbies. If the flags could be put less deep into nation space than defended newbie areas, I'd be in favor of very, very small cap reward like we had in 3.1. The motivation to cap would be national glory, not monetary reward.

The thing is, Asp, that money is worth less now. Ships are more expensive. Weapons are more expensive. Deaths are more frequent. The small amount from 3.1 doesn't even pay for a fraction of the costs incurred in a cap anymore.

well...

i never saw capping as a serious way to earn money. i think you got the concept wrong. as Asp already mentioned, flag cap count is what matters, not how much dough you make out of it.

Heh, the only way I make money now is caps...
Kind of sad really.

As always Roguelazer you just don't get it.

Capping is NOT supposed to be the primary means of funding a player.
We ARE supposed to be testing the dynamic economy.
Capping WILL go away when missions come.

I don't want it to be the primary source of funds. But, as it is now, it costs the average person 50k to help in a cap, none of which they get back unless the capper is kind enough to pay them (not always true). I don't think it should be a primary funding... But I don't think that the only "Mission" (which is what capping is, like it or not) should be performed at a loss of everything. Loss of kills, loss of money, etc.

If you change it so that everyone who's online gets even 2K per cap, you will have people sitting idle just collecting cash for hours/days on end which IMNSHO is "very bad".
Dec 12, 2003 roguelazer link
However, I must bring back to focus that the devs have encouraged capping up until now. Thinking back, this is the only version where team capping has been actively discouraged. That doesn't confuse anyone else?

it's BS that team capping is discouraged.
if capper does not pay his team mates, what kind of team member is he? just don't help him next time.
Dec 15, 2003 roguelazer link
Does it matter? I've seen caps where the intended capper is killed and someone totally different grabs the flag, with no intent of distributing money. Until there is some safeguard, we cannot trust the integrity of people.

blues cant trust each other? hehe jk

Why not just reward everyone who actually helped with the actual cap - and not everyone on a given team?

Also - I think the team should get a given amount of money, with the actual capper getting a bonus amount.
