This should have been done years ago
So I'm playin on android... and it seems literally impossible to add a new sector note. Help reads:
"[to add a note or edit a note]
Goto the sector you wish to add a note and with the mouse pointing over the sector press the 'a' key then enter the note in the prompt"
There is literally no way to do that when using a phone or tablet that does not have a mosue AND physical keyboard
And the "help" continues: listing all kinds of push a physical keyboard button kind of things, none of which can be done on a phone
Totally should be some way to do all of these things with a touchscreen and no mouse or physical keyboard.
Should be fairly simple to add a button next to list notes that would add/edit note for whatever the current DESTINATION is (or sector currently in if no nav route set)
and buttons for other things that are currently impossible on a phone as well, that have anything to do with notes. Should be part of the game (actually should have been part of the game years ago considering how long the game's been playable on mobile platforms)

So, I believe you can add a new sector note, on a touch-screen. I think you can long-press the sector?

I'm not suggesting it shouldn't also be officially added, but in the interim...

If I recall correctly, long-pressing the sector adds it to your navroute without replacing the existing navroute.
long press on a sector does add it to navroute without replacing existing navroute... like adding a waypoint. Another something that is quite important.
I think maybe all that's needed is adding a button like draugath's SectorNotesButton
List notes / sector notes are very much a core part of the game itself, and the functionality for touchscreens to be able to use it should be a core part of the game itself as well. It would be very much appreciated if in a near future update that functionality could be made part of the game instead of relying on a plugin :)
For now SectorNotesButton works, and with that single button seems to have added all of the needed functionality: creating a note. If there's no note for the sector it opens "Note to add to <system> <sector>". If there's a note already for the sector then it opens that same note for editing. Seems the only issue was not being able to create a note on the phone
Another suggestion to go along with built in functionality draugath's button provides for now: Somewhere on the VO virtual keyboard, a return key. Same function as pressing enter on a computer's keyboard... would be quite handy for making notes. There's plenty of space in the Alt of "?123" and there's not many times at all that an actual enter key would be needed in game so it wouldn't be a hassle that it's stashed away with the few other things in the Alt of ?123. Or could perhaps even make an "uppercase" (shifted) Done fulfill the role of creating a return

Oh, i thought sector notes had something borked with it, so I just use the mission notes page instead. If you edit the file outside of VO, enter works there. Inside VO, i cant remember, but I think I just add a bunch of spaces and just edit them out later.
