Since its in suggestions now, let me amend: the system is fine. -1. Its how it has been, and if you have an issue with "dont shoot in nfz, dont shoot faction bots you dont wanna lose rep with", then maybe you shouldnt equip your ship with blasters.

save da carebears! NOT!

The real problem is the nfz is too large allowing kos players to effectively hide from anyone trying to simply defend themselves even if they have been attacked. It renders the entire mechanism useless.

Dumb dumbs. The attacked player is allowed to return fire anywhere including the nfz. Pay attention and stop spreading incorrect information.

Dread, he means allowing ALL players to attack anyone who gets the tempKOS from attacking in the NFZ.

tl;dr

Why not extend the NFZ rules applied to player A who iirc can defend themselves to both their guild and group?

@ Death Fluffy

Because it is the No Fire Zone. In fact, the NPC trader ships shouldn't be firing on the tkos or fully hate/kos player.

As I mentioned above, there is more than one way to defend a guild mate. Just shooting rep guns at your guild mate defends her or her without triggering a NFZ violation.

Sorry DPR but shooting a player or bot in the nfz does still trigger a temp kos even if the player was attacked first and receives the ok to retaliate.

What are you talking about PAkettle? If I shoot you first, you can shoot me back in the NFZ without triggering the a violation. It has been like this for years. You have 15 minutes to shoot at me.

Even better, as of recently, if I die to the SF, but not to your hands, you can continue to shoot me until the 15 minutes is up or you kill me.

Now if you go and shoot ANOTHER player or NPC in the NFZ, then yeah, you are going to trigger a violation and will get devwarped elsewhere.

The only NFZ that still triggers when you try to defend yourself is Corvus. Their tiny NFZs still work even in defence mode. But in ANY other space, the person you attack is allowed to return fire within the no fire zone as long as the faction controlling the sector does not change.

Sorry to bring that RL place into it, but law in most society is the same. If I am walking down the street and see my friend getting attacked by some guy, and I attack them, then I would be arrested for assault. Same thing here, just because they are in your group/guild/buddy does not give you the right to go around breaking the law. We get it ecka, you think you are the bee's knees - the savoir of the little guy, the hero of the miners - but really you are just a drunk idiot looking for easy kills, you should join EDIT.

I won't speak to certain emasculated, across-the-pond societies where that might be true, but at least under US law you would be engaging in a completely legal, justifiable use of force (assuming you didn't, say, interject a spray of bullets into a relatively genteel bout of fisticuffs).

Now, you'd have to be actually defending your friend from an ongoing attack, rather than just avenging him for a punch already thrown, and you'd have to have no reason to think your friend started the fight...but still.

That is exactly my point, you just do not know. The guy could have just found out his cat is pregnant to your friend or something. And if you beat him to death it is still manslaughter at minimum (where-as if your friend gets the upper hand and beats him to death while you watch, it could still be self-defence - and fun). Even in your back-assed country that votes for people like Trump, I'm pretty sure this would be the case.

The actual fix for this is a smarter strike-force. Currently it just moronically chases the target, easy to avoid in a fast ship. It could do something smarter like have some of them chase, some of them move into position around other ships in the NFZ, and the rest spread out around the whole NFZ to protect the station. Possibilities abound.

Yes I agree Harpo. A better AI all around would be the better fix, and was supposed to happen when they hired Mom years ago. For all his boasting about how much better he was going to make things, he sure screwed up. I mean, he seems like a nice enough guy and all, but what a knobhead.

First the debilitator that died faster than orun collectors, and then kill-the-courier which i think is still the reason that convoys/convoy2 ships die off. Good luck de-buggin that mess devs! Best to just roll back to the 2004 release and start again, imho! (yes, not very helpful I know, but how are you guys ever going to fix that?)

Anyway, the AI is stupid, and it is not going to get better anytime soon. The AI is actually blind you know.

Maybe Ecka is just too ol' and too slow to evade SF anymore. How about a geriatric badge to have SF holdin' fire? :p
