overview: all "Collector" bots can drop "Christmas presents" (specifically, the old model that made all loot look like christmas presents, but now as a unique item like the red/blue flags item); pilots can turn in multiples of 100 units for an "event neutron blaster", which is just some version of neutron with red instead of green particle coloring. Any pilot who is able to turn in 1k units would get a special badge featuring a christmas tree. This event would be intended to repeat yearly.

Shipments of presents in transit have been stolen by the hive, so a call has gone out between each nation's capitol to incentivize pilots to deliver the stolen packages back to their delivery hub, where they can be properly delivered.

why now?
Well, it'd take a while to implement, aye? Gotta fit inside whatever cool projects the devs are already working on. Dunno how hard adjusting weapon color is, but adjusting loot tables across the entire universe without breaking anything else sounds difficult.

Holiday specials are always fun and a special treat to paying customers who have seen few new player assets in the game for some time. I think having a weapon that already exists but shoots in different color and has a special name is pretty damn easy "easter egg" or "christmas gift" that we would all enjoy. Changing gun colors to something more different than the norm is just a cool idea anyway.. then when people see you shoot it, they know immediately you have something unique.

I wonder how hard it'd be to have a "jingling bells" sound (like a sleigh bells being played, not a snippet of the well-known carol) play when you get hit by a christmas neut, instead of the usual hit sound? Because that'd be an amusing additional bit of "flair".
