Guild Creation Changes

Jan 18, 2022 Sid123 link
We have had many cases recently with people (I won't name names unless asked) creating guilds, recruiting very very (and I mean fresh out of training) new players, and eventually leaving the guild in a very short while. They are often not aware of what guilds are, the guild politics, the reputation of the guild leader etc. While the new players are not forced to join or stay in the guild, it is a fact that joining a guild that disintegrates within a week or less is very demoralising. Many of these players have not been seen online after the guilds disbanded. The only solution I see is to restrict guild creation and recruiting, so such incidents are reduced. I propose the following steps:

1) Make a minimum license requirement to create a guild. I suggest 3 on all licenses. Or maybe just combat and trade 3. This reduces the incidence of people with no experience or skill creating guilds which quickly go bust. It also to some extent mitigates the problem of people creating guilds with alts either to give noobs wrong advice or defraud them, or to get work done from them for free or very low compensation.

2) A guild creation fee of 10 million. This prevents extremely new and inexperienced players creating guilds. It also puts a significant cost on guild creation that prevents people from creating guilds off hand just because they feel like it. Or to troll noobs. At the same time it is not a very large sum to gather. This should be accompanied with a crystal payment of 50-100. This prevents people creating f2p alts with which they create guilds as mentioned above. The crystal cost will make anyone think twice.

3) A monthly limit on guild creation. One character can create only 1 guild in a month. If said guild is disbanded, they cannot create another that month. We have had a case where a player created and left 2 guilds in 72 hours. Both guilds were composed largely of new players who had just completed training. This will be avoided by monthly non increaseable limit. Also anyone who wants to create a serious guild will not suffer because of this. Only the joke guilds or troll guilds will.

4) A minimum game time before one can join a guild. Game time means time spent online. This may not be very high. 12 or 24 hours is fine. Just enough time to understand what a guild is and a basic rudimentary understanding of guild politics.

5) A seperate channel for guild recruiting. Messages advertising guilds should be banned from channel 100 and 1. Rather, channel 50(?) may be used for guild recruiting messages. Recruiting or advertising messages on channel 100 or 1 should be reportable and punishable, like messages on discussion of irl politics, racism etc are. This will prevent these messages reaching players who do not want to join a guild as they can simply leave the channel. If a player wants to know more about guilds, they can ask in channel 100 or 1 and be directed to channel 50. A very simple and player implementable solution with no need for dev intervention... accept for an addition to the RoC that recruiting messages in 100 and 1 are prohibited. I would actually like a similar channel for player market too, but that's neither as necessary as this one not is it the topic of this suggestion.

The new guild is a noobie trolling blight on VO. IMO it needs to be got rid of as fast as possible, and this is a solution. Please consider and implement as soon as convenient.

Everything except 3 is a +1 from me.

3 will anyway be unnecessary unless someone is really dedicated to trolling noobs. But the others IMO are very important

Limits to guild creation make sense, to a certain degree, but I do not believe preventing new pilots from joining a guild is beneficial. I understand that guild politics are a potentially nasty thing, but I believe the benefit of giving new pilots the ability to seek out these smaller but more engaging regions of communication help with their engagement, and are more likely to keep them around.

Also, #5 is a complete bust for me. If someone is obnoxiously spamming, they can be /reported, but otherwise everyone should be free to openly recruit pilots.

12 hours of game time isn't very large IMO. And I wanted to keep guild recruiting away from public chat so noobs aren't drawn into traps. Anyone is still free to recruit pilots. Just not on general. It's like the rule on discord about not advertising guilds in general or player market. People who want to join a guild can keep an eye on 50, but others need not.

1) +1 only if at least one license is over 10.
2) +1
3) -1 useless because of 1 and 2
4) -1 counter productive for newb helping guilds - i rather have in game time presence for guild creation 50 hours
5) 0 requires no game modification, just game policy updated and enforced by guides and /report

1) Having a licence over 10 is a bit too steep IMO...maybe 5 on combat and trade.

3) Completely agree. 3 was an unnecessary addition...anyone commenting after this please don't consider that one.

4) I have explained my reason for this above. Even for newb helping guilds 12 hours of game time ought to be fine. In game time of 50 hours for creation is good too.

5) I agree this requires very little dev intervention, just player cooperation. So please players try to keep guild recruiting to channel 50 and reference anyone wanting to join a guild there. I will myself do so, as well as sending a FaceOf like message when I'm online for the same, after I figure out how to make it. Please cooperate. This is one step we don't need the devs to do anything for.

Take down #5 as well...I realised how futile it is.
