Faction change mission

Historically, people have defected to other nations for a number of reasons. So it is only natural that people in VO-verse do the same.

The current gameplay mechanism allows the player to choose one of the three fcations when creating a character: The Serco Dominion, Itan and the Union of Independent Territories.

Here I propose a new gameplay machanism for a player to change their faction. If the player's standing with the faction in question is good enough (say, >450), they will see a mission tree in their PDA that offers them thier citizenship. It can be a series of missions like "be a part of our faction", "get to know more about us", etc. The final mission charges the player an exorbitant amount of money, like 1 billion credits (so that players do not end up changing their factions on a whim) and the player formally becomes a part of the said faction. Post this mission, the player's standing with the previous faction gets capped at +600. Likewise, the standing with the new faction can go up to +1000.

However, there are certain restrictions in changing the faction. A player cannot switch from Serco to Itani and vice-versa. No faction would want its people to join their enemy. The player will have to go through the UIT route.

A player's faction may only be changed twice. The second faction change must charge even higher (5 billion credits, maybe?). No faction likes a person who is not loyal to them.

I know a player can just create a different character. This mission tree is more about the in-game character being uncomfortable with their faction rather than the player wanting to play as a different character. It is about roleplay.

I think if something like this was to be implemented it should leave you permanently KOS with your previous nation. Perhaps also a limit on your new nations standing, at least make gaining standing over +600 is three or more times slower.

I also think it should be possible to go Serco - Itani and visa versa.

Defection and double agents are common between powers in most conflicts so why not this one? I just think it should have serious continued repercussions. I mean a real world defector isn't ever going to be fully trusted.

I agree, that if this were to be implemented you should be permanently KOS with the previous nation due to being a traitor. Also, you should be locked out of using any ships you have from the nation you defected from on top of an extraordinary cost to defect. Though, I don't think it would be worth the effort and time of the devs to make a change like this in which hardly anyone would use.

I like this.. though I think you should let them keep any national ships they acquired from their previous faction which further solidifies the reasoning for the permanent KOS/traitor status
