Multiple Suggestions (VO overhaul)

Jan 01, 2023 Aven_ link
Hey guys. After many people suggesting I come here and throw my ideas against the wall, I guess here I am.

I've been down this road before and I'm not really interested in putting everything out there however. Most hardcore players want their beloved games to stay the same, actually. Most people are resistant to change and I usually get poo-poo'd out of the forum sections of the games I play for that exact reason.

So what I"m going to say here is, if the Devs are interested in what I have to say then fine. I will indulge. But to make things easy, I have a list of things you should seriously consider, in order of importance. So if you're wanting to see what I have to say, pick the first thing and send me a PM. I can actually help you make more money, hire more devs, and push out changes faster (I realise VO is a labour of love but it needs a LOT of work):

Step 1: Better monetization strategy. note: my ideas are NOT pay to win

Step 2 (after hiring more devs): improve the new player experience (involves changing the way missions are handled)

Step 3: Overhaul the UI, implement a proper guild management window. Give guild leaders much better control of their guild by watching their players grow.

Step 4: Give guilds more things to do as a group (giving "end game" players better ways of interacting with their guild and with the game). Implement things like military style missions that are only available to them as a guild which yield large rewards, maybe even special ships that are not available for purchase. Give guilds a way to build a headquarters, and special instanced space that they can access as a "safe zone" for players of guilds to frequent. The well of ideas here are endless as I have been playing space games for 27 years.

Ok guys well, again I'm not really interested in debating. I'm not interested in the veteran players calling me a piece of crap for making suggestions. The game NEEDS to change, I see VO as basically a demo, a framework for something better, but it's horribly empty and void. It's deep in the sense of the flight and fight mechanics, but the game lacks things to really do except fly around and shoot at eachother, or fight against swarms of hives. It's pretty devoid of content actually, and the new player experience is horribly underwhelming.

Again if you are a dev and want to pick my brain about this, either msg me on discord or talk to me in-game. I'm probably not coming back to the forum so .. to all you Vet players who are like ZOMG THIS GUY IS AN IDIOT. Don't waste your breath. Peace

-1. I am speaking in terms of someone who thinks the game is good for what it is, and await other posts for thoughts, so here goes my post:

The devs have a vision, and the time in which you joined the community was a time where the devs were hoping to optimize the game for future additional content server wide. It may seem empty right now, but its really not. Theres content all across the void of space, you just have to go out to find it.

From what ive seen in regards to monetization, the devs have done fairly well with the cheap subs and number of people who sub. I dont really see why they would push for higher monetization, which IMHO is a KEY POINT people play VO at all.

In regards to improving new players and their experience with missions and such things, its already being done. The missions you see are actually made by players themselves, sometimes years ago. The missions they make are often content players wish to see overall in the 'verse, and they provide quite well. For new players, the devs have been working extraordinary hours and put in immense effort, in an ongoing project to improve the tutorial and revamp things for a newer player to have a great experience. Again, the game is quite ambitious, and the devs have done wonders to provide what they have. All they really ask is our understanding.

In regards to your UI overhaul suggestion and the guild management changes, the devs are already doing it. The UI is part of their ongoing pushes for optimization for both PC players AND mobile players, as well as VR players! (Dont wanna forget you VR users here!) Guild management on the other hand, players themselves have suggested ways to improve, but from what other forums posts say, its not currently something thats high on the priorities list, that I can see.

Finally, Guild wide Content. What your suggesting sounds alot like EVE ONLINE and other spacebound MMOs, and IMHO doesnt really fit with the direction VO is heading. Theres plenty for guilds to do together, like running in guild events like mining competitions, duel tournaments, and several others. The "safe zone" idea is also against game design and intent, as per what Incarnate has stated multiple times here in the suggestions forums. Space isnt supposed to be safe. Where theres reward, there must be risk. Thats why people travel in/through, or live in Greyspace, as its high rewards, at the cost of high risk. Noone likes games where your handed everything you could ever want. Its just not fun.

And my closing statement to your wall of suggestions, is that what your suggesting just doesnt fit into VO as feasible for the devs, or is already being done in some capacity. Should the devs like your ideas, however, being on the forums is actually really important, as they frequent this area in search of new suggestions and bugs to fit on their schedule to fix. Anyways, ill cut it off here, as some people dont like reading walls.

Just know: Your not the first to feel this way.

Please see Rule #5, from the post pinned at the top of this Suggestions forum: https://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/37508 You've actually run afoul of most of the rules, but #5 is probably the most applicable.

[/]"Rule #5 - Be Thorough in your Suggestion, with Each Idea in a Unique Thread.

Post the positives, the downsides or risks, the trade-offs and ramifications, and why you think the idea improves the game as a whole. Consider the likely development burden, and factor that into your thought process.

Include potential acquisition barriers (item cost, is it a drop, is it manufactured, what are the level requirements, etc).

Do not post single-sentence Suggestions, like: "Add landing on planets!"

Similarly, don't post several different ideas to a single thread. Each idea deserves its own thread, otherwise, the on-going discussion gets overly chaotic and confusing (people may not be specific which idea they're referencing, etc). Even if you have several ideas for items within a category, like several different weapons: post each weapon Suggestion in its own unique thread."

As you have stated you don't plan to return to the forums, there's no point in keeping this thread open.
