Introduce a new testbed conquerable station/sector

In past threads Incarnate has stated that the conq stations were tests for conflicted sectors/stations/etc.

Since conquerable statiions are just there to test mechanics, I propose a new conquerable station to test some other mechanics that have been suggested in the past

Intro thoughts:

1)The station will not be one of the original three conq stations. Instead, it will be placed somewhere in grey without a conq station. Maybe Edras, as that system only has a single station.
2)The station should not be taken in the exact manner as the current stations.
3)Multiple stages should be part of the station take. Currently the station defenses get dropped. Once the defenses are down, someone just sits in the dock for 30 seconds and they have station. I am thinking of something a little more elaborate than that.

The main suggestion:

A) The new conquerable station will have a shield. This shield takes up what normally would be a NFZ in a standard station. Some defense turrets are inside the shields, some are outside. Players with a key can enter the shield. Those without a key are prevented entry.

B) The shield is powered by three shield power generators located in other sectors, and one in the station sector. In Edras, these would be J-5,J-6,L-5. When the station is taken, a single power station is activated in the station sector(K-4). The station owners must then repair the power generators in the three other sectors if they want a fully hardened shield. The shield can be popped with overwhelming firepower. If the shield is down, anyone without a key may sit in the dock and take station(even if there are station defense assets still alive). This conquerable station mechanic combines the leviathan mechanics with the current conquerable station mechanics. It also encourages participants to focus on multiple sectors at once.



C) Shield power generators would be repaired with the current in game repair mechanic. Once down to 0, they would need to be brought up to 100% health to reactivate(priming them). As long as the generators are not reduced to zero they are active. The primary generator in the station sector is the weakest, making it easy to repair to full, but also supplying the least amount of shield power.

D)Enterprising attackers could overpower the shield with enough fire power. If the shield gets overpowered, all shield power stations are overloaded and need to be repaired.

E)Taking a station without repairing the conquerable station's primary shield power generator would leave the station open to being quickly captured by another force.

F) Once the shield is back up, station owners can deploy additional defense assets, supplementing the two station guards and the turrets. (Similar to the Buff Conq station guards and turrets suggestion). The deployable asset defense mission allows for one of a few packages. A low end fighter only defense force. A middle force with fighters. pcb seekers, and rags, and a high end force including NPC moths (that engage with their primary weapons) and a terradon. The higher end the package, the more resources (credits/commodities) it costs. Only a single defense package can be activated at a time. The higher end the defense package, the longer the cool down to reactivate it.

Closing thoughts:

Overall we could all participate in a conq station testbed with additional layers of complexity. Feedback would given in a forum thread, and the devs would tweak the mechanics as needed. Until there was something close to ideal that then could be deployed to the rest of the conq stations.

It has been my experience that, unless the player base is provided with some kind of direct motivation for participation (manufacturing missions, unique bot drops, etc), people don't really test anything.

Engineering this new mechanic for conquest would be a lot of effort, just for it to likely sit there and probably be ignored?

Which begs the question of.. why not test new conquest mechanics on the existing conquerable stations? That is what they're for..

I'm ok with that as well. I was just trying to avoid the instant -1's from responders who don't do well with change. Instead I was going to ease them into it.

i like the shield idea. i was thinking about a zone around the station as well, where players would have to remain outside the zone prior to a capture to help prevent/minimize clipping into the station as a capture tactic at the start of a battle. a shield would fit the bill quite well.
