Point Defence; are we nearly there yet?
I think the main problem with capturables and the 'deshielding' process is that munitions still can't be destroyed while in flight. Should this be bumped up the priority list a bit?
This is a question in the Suggestions forum. I suggest that you frame this as a suggestion in the manner requested:

I certainly appreciate the value of that. But, I can't speak to whether we can raise the priority right now, as I don't remember all the moving-parts of issues around it (no pun intended).
Physics and object interaction is a pretty complex topic in a scalable networked game.
Anyway, we can try to take a look at it; I agree, it'd something I would really like to have as an option, from a design standpoint.

Shield turrets are a thing.
Yeah, they're just a custom-made thing of a totally different weapon class.
There are a lot of optimizations in the collision and spatial partitioning algorithms, to reduce the processing complexity of managing, say, a hundred million moving laser shots in a big space-battle.
All I can tell you is that we'll try to make some time to take a look?

I can only imagine how complex it could get! I just wanted to bring it up now on the off chance that it had become more possible, because it would dramatically impact the conquerable station discussion.
I suppose I should have been more descriptive. Shield turrets are already a thing you can use to destroy munitions in flight. I've used them to block plenty of flares, swarms, PCBs, etc. The only trouble is you have to give up a scarce turret mount to equip one.
Actually, it'd be kind of cool if something like Flechettes could be modified to have a (small) collision hull so they can detonate missiles, and then turn the Neut3 turret into something more useful like a Flechette MkII turret.
boom. point defense

Remember, the "cloud" particle on a fletchette cannon is visual only. the fletchette behaves like a Gat1; there's only one damaging projectile per... 'tick', for lack of a better word?
This is more apparent in 3rd person. fire a fletchette, and you'll see that cloud dissipate and the *real* projectile keep going.
Unless *that's* what you want to delete missiles with? O_o

Yep, I'm aware of the visual effects vs the actual projectile.
You have to aim by sight anyway since you can't target missiles, so something with a little scatter might actually be helpful.

Actually, didn't capgauss used to work like that?
I swear it used to pop missiles if it hit them at one point...
