Introduce ability to become a proper pirate.

People have asked for a pirate /grey space nation for years which has been turned down again and again. Which, I am for, but it seems like that isn't in the devs vision.

Just to clarify.. the whole "tortuga" floating-pirate-station-that-moves-around idea was mine [1][2]. Not a player suggestion. I'm pretty obviously not "against" that.

Historically, people have requested the ability to become unaligned, and I deferred on that because of the Q/A process needed to make sure that all worked properly. I didn't say I wouldn't ever do it, I just had problems scheduling it at the time.

Historically, people have also erroneously stated that Corvus was intended to be a "pirate faction", and I've clarified a few times that that was not correct. (Again, I'm always open to feedback on this and all other things, but I'm just stating that my clarification was not the same as negating creation of a pirate-aligned faction, or "unaligned" mechanic).

So to be clear, to say I've been "turning people down again and again" is inaccurate. I may turn down very specific implementations, and I've been pushing more for a generalized "lack of affiliation" rather than a "specific pirate nation", but that isn't the same as saying that I'm against the same functionality appearing in a slightly different way.

Yeah, sorry about that. Next time I will be sure to do more research before I speak on a topic. I was just going by memory that this topic has come up a lot, and that it's never been implemented. As a player, it's easy to get caught up in the want of an idea, that's been suggested a lot, without consideration as to why it has never been implemented as suggested. And as the years go on, it's hard to remember the details. So, you end up with this false feeling that the players aren't being listened to when the topic emerges again.

In regards to the Corvus confusion, I think it can be attributed to Corvus being only in grey space, where most of the time, you aren't punished for pirating. Coupled with the fact their faction specific ships, the greyhound and the Corvus Marauder, are geared towards pirating.

No worries, I understand. The pace of progress, and uncertainty thereof, can be pretty frustrating.

It's definitely very frustrating for me as well. But, I still try to get up and climb the hill every day, even if I mostly end up sliding down face-first, heh.

I really have no idea how to improve this kind of perceptual issue though. In a world where I could really focus on design and nothing else, maybe I could have a really clear-cut set of long-term intentions and relative priorities, and it would be easier to retain some sense that I care about these things (although it would still require a lot of faith, since I wouldn't be able to implement them any faster).

But, in the world where I live, most of my time is taking up by "fire-fighting" of some kind. Like our entire past month has just been a trainwreck of bizarre left-turns and unforeseen BS. So, anyway, I appreciate you still being willing to give me the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, I definitely don't lack interest in adding more piracy-related content to the game.
