Binds Menu!!

Feb 26, 2004 SirCamps link
Having been using a character with a LOT of binds (30+), I thought it would be nice if we could have a simple binds menu akin to those found in many first-person shooters. One key brings up a menu, another key selects the type of bind (global taunt, teamsay, responses, commands, etc.), and hitting another key says the bind.

Like the one in MOH:AA?

How the hell did you keep your cover as [unnamed player] for so long with that many binds? You're bound (no pun intended) to accidentally strike a key.

Not when I don't touch the shift key, or cover it with hard plastic. :P

See the redesigned HUD thread for a good idea on how this could work more efficiently than MOA: 'borrow' the Alias|Wavefront system! Hold down a modifier key and click a mouse button, a circular manu pops up with a line drawn from the centre to the mouse position, move the mouse and the line rotates highlighting a menu choice, let the button go and the selection is made. This works brilliantly in Maya and StudioTools...

Write a bind system! like,
/bind X main
/alias main "echo 'C for taunts' 'D for usefull crap' 'F for monkeys'"
/bind C taunts
/alias taunts "echo 'A - YARRGHUI!' ') - I'm better than you because I have toes!' 'G - piraty taunt thing'"
/bind D useful
/alias usefull "echo '$ - barrel roll thing' '& - Turbo toggle' 'L - Useful spam'"
/bind F monkeys
/alias monkeys "echo 'Y - the monkey bind' "

or something...

ot: shouldn't it be M for monkeys? /ot

seriously though: genka has so far the best system (it's also instantly implementable).
the binds menu idea is nice&nifty but won't be implemented soon, i guess...

I think F for monkeys is appropriate. :) /ot

The idea for a menu for binds is good but won't that limit what can be done with it?

Not if it is customizable. Let people add and delete group bind names, as well as individual ones.
