HUD tracking

When tracking targets in the HUD, only the currently selected target is identified and indicated by a name and target box.

This makes it a pain when other craft fly into one's area, but one is engaged in targeting something else. One has to deselect one's target, and then select the new target to identify whether it is friendly.

For example, I was once fighting a bot, and some idiot of the same Nation as I am, started firing on me. So I had to detarget the bot, to find out whether I was going to get hurt, etc.

Now, with current navigation technology on Earth, radar systems can easily track and identify multiple craft at once. When you go to a flight control tower, their radars don't make them select only one object to identify at once. The screens are full of information and labels on every aircraft in their airspace.

So, why not put an identification box (visually more muted than the "active target" box) and abbreviated description on all craft in the vicinity? Surely if we have technology to do this on aircraft today, it would be possible in spacecraft in the future?

I believe this feature would also greatly improve large battles and multiplayer groups, and reduce the amount of accidental "friendly fire."
