Grey Space

Dec 11, 2004 Shapenaji link
You know, I was talking to some alphas about the gameplay from a LONG time ago. And I have to say... it sounded fun. The strategy seemed much deeper. Secret stations, guarded by mines :) incursions that involved diversions, etc...

Clearly there are a large number of players who are NOT interested in PvP yet. But, we do have this whole gray space... arena.

Many Ideas have been suggested to use this, eliminating xp loss completely for anyone in grey space, being a simple one. But one could go further, increasing the time that mines could stay in place or allowing mines to stay when players leave a sector, for example.

Give people room to be intuitive, rather than only rewarding the dogfighting abilities of players in the environment.

Grey space should be its own entity.

For starters, how about removing the Kraz bots from Corvus M14 station, maybe up some ship varieties up to mkII or III, put some uniquely available ore at Corvus (think nanites?)

(there would also be a reason for mines remaining longer in grey space, in monitored space they are found and deactivated by invisible engineering crews, within 15 min :D. In unmonitored, invisible engineering crews get shot.)

the reason they are gone by 15 min is because they run out of energy. (at least, that's what the lightning mines do. they self destruct after running out of batt).

If I am not mistaken, your client controls all mines you drop. If you leave the sector, nobody is in charge of them any more (same applies to homers, btw).

getting rid of grey space regulations would be nice. it's easier to practice/duel, make mine shows, and have wars. there's a place for safe botting (in home sectors), but after players can take care of themselves, why still have the supervision? In the past, many players would acquire a bit of skill, and never need return to their homesectors, contributing to more pvp. (there is little action in homespace. if there is going to be any interaction, it will most likely lie in grey space).

I've been hanging out in grey space recently, but it hasn't done much for me. Probably because I am inexperienced at PvP (the closest I got was with Prosus Assaults) I have had some PvP encounters, but I have either died or nearly died in all of them. I'm thinking of botting in grey space until I get at least combat 4.

BTW Levels 3/5/3/2/1

Shadowfury: experience does factor. most good pvpers have lose/died quite a few times to be as good as they are right now, too. right now, it is much harder to encounter and get good at pvp, which is an exciting part of the game. (and people have much less incentive to pvp, because they don't need it)
