Being Serco, i don't know if i'm happy with this, prom being playable again is nice, but how long will it last, 24 hours, 48 hours, a week? whatever

I don't think it will last because basically, heard it said somewhere in game, "Those who whine loudest, get their way". And the itani have big gobs.

temp,

I resent that since im an itani :D

Anyway, I just wanna hear ruby, spider, lin tell me what they think about the prom. If they consider it balanced, then I will leave it like that.

Although, it might need a small downwards adjustment (although only at the moment). But we will see once the total rebalancing has been done, wont we :D

Anyway, temp what do you consider of the agt, to powerfull to strong? After using an agt on the warthog, still the same idea?

cheers

Imagine a warthog that's much faster, with much more armor, and the ability to carry extra weps with 1/3 the weight disadvantage.

AGT hogs always took skill to defeat, and the way you had to do it was by outmaneuvering them.

It is no longer possible to outmaneuver this in the same way.

Look, I may not be the best pilot, but you don't get 600 pk's if you don't know how to fight. Will somebody here trust me on the fact that there's a problem.

Again, this is not whining, this is criticism. If you're not willing to accept that things need to be changed, then this whole balancing act is just that, an ACT.
Jan 22, 2005 Renegade ++RIP++ link
killed more then enough warthogs to know what im talking about. And outmanouvring was really never needed. Just staying out of their zone of force was all that was needed. And I used a gauss/jackhammer hog or a gauss/sunflare vult to do it. Sometimes even a doublegauss.

And in a valk they were a pushover.

Although, like I stated before an adjustment might be needed. But Im not goiung to base myself on 1 opinion shape, you yourselve should know that that is unwise. And this possibility is probably best done by changing the modifier not to 3 but 2.5 as a starters. So it will only have a 1/2.5 advantage. Add the heavier base weapons and I think it might be ok. Although we could take a bigger step to chang eit to 2 and see how serco feel about the change, we can always go higher again in small steps.

But like I said, I wanna see the rest of the rebalance first before Im going to make another proposition. But like always, the first appearance of a balancing is always slightly overpowered, and then we do need to not act to rash. Since it is that what made the prom get its nerfingstick. And why you heard people complain about it.

A little tidbit of chat just flashed by..

Niki: It dodges better than a vulture.
Martin.au: Yeah, I'd say about as good as a Rev C

I haven't fought in or against a prom yet, so I'll reserve judgement. But the price of agility should be less health - at 22k health, the prom has to be LESS manueverable than the light fighters, not as good as.

maybe in a year, the game will be balanced, for the moment, the ups and downs and constant "critisism" are more than i can endure. I am going to quit.

Have Fun

Well I must say it's interesting to fight against. I fought about half a dozen battles against Sputnik and lost all of them. I was utilizing a SGV, Warthog mk4 or a cent 3.

Ayn also lost about 4 against Sputnik. He was flying a Rev C Orion Centurion. And Niki lost one or two as well while flying a vulture of some sort.

If you get close enough to hit it with energy weapons you are well inside the range of it's Gatling Turret. If you fight outside of its Gatling range then it's almost impossible to hit. You can only hope that the Prom pilot goes to sleep while chasing you and flies into your shots. Add the fact that it can mount flares as well and it's too dangerous to approach it.

From my own experience flying it and fighting against it I think it can turn like a warthog and dodge like a vulture.

okay, apart from just looking at stats and what we have, I think we should start to look at long-term goals for the ships we have.

what _is_ a Ragnarok and a Prometheus? they're heavy attack vessels. what do heavy attack vessels usually own? medium level ships. what do they dislike? very light fighters. but, a very light fighter should require patience and a lot of hit and run attacks to get anywhere near killing a heavy ship.

now, the Prom should be the best allround heavy ship in the game. this means it should outdodge a Ragnarok (which has more weaponry) with relative ease. it should also eat Hornets and snack on Warthogs. what do we do to accomplish this? make the Prom a slightly better ship to fly than the Warthog, but still quite a bit less maneuverable than a Cent. then, take cargo down to something between 5 and 15 cus, depending on how battle-geared the version is... and heck, maybe even _increase_ the armor. make them _last_ in a fight. make them be the ships that one on one requires you to keep hitting and hitting while constantly having to (and having the possibility to) dodge.

this means that a very light ship, given enough time and avoiding (m)any mistakes, can down a Prom. but, if you screw up, you're Prom-food, it still moves very well. from what I've seen so far of the new Prom, the "not screw up" isn't really an option.

and, for the heavier versions, infiniboost should probably go.

this is how I see the Prom. I'll have to admit that what we have today is closer to what it should have been than what it was, but this isn't it either. right now it is more like a light fighter with 2S and one 1L ports.

what then should get a light fighter? in a perfect world? other light ships, and some medium ships. the worst enemy of a Cent
is another Cent, or a Hog or a Hornet with anti-small-ship weapons.

oh, and another thing, I'm not worried about ships that are good for a newbie and good for a vet. I'm worried about ships that are unbeatable in the hands of a vet.

for the record, I'm Itani. I've been here for a month. I do CtC (well, try to), but I do _not_ want a hard and brutal Prom-nerfing even though todays Prom might turn the current tide of CtC this week. when (and I mean, when) the Prom gets readjusted, it should be as a part of a greater plan, not a sudden "crap, this didn't work". although, if we loose CtC again this week, I _will_ be miffed. and if we suddenly see a large colletion of Proms turning the tide, well, that'll be good proof that something is wrong. it is "just another CtC week". let's look at the long term, the Devs have enough of a pain trying to balance things in the long term even without players wanting short-time solutions.

(and in case anyone wonders, yes, I want Neuts MkIII. I wonder what they look like. :-)

Before we talk about re-nerfing the Prometheus, can we please just let it play out for more than A NIGHT?! I mean seriously, the update is barely EIGHT HOURS OLD.

That's not nearly enough time to see whether the balance has been severely tipped in one way or another. Sure, you're going to see a lot of Proms out in space for the next day or so, but that's because all the Serco are going to be trying out their toys. But see what happens by maybe Monday, when the Serco have finished playing around, and decide whether or not they want to KEEP flying the Prom. Then we'll see where the balance lies. If people find it to be deadly, they'll stick with it, if they find it not to their particular playing style, they won't.

If there are still an inordinate number of players flying Proms (compared with say, players flying Marauders, or Valkyries), then maybe some tweaking is in order. BUT if the number of players flying Proms are about on par with the Mauds and the Valks, then maybe they're at the right place.

Nya13:

the Centaur doesn't need more armor. it's not a fighter. it's not made to stay in the frey for too long, and todays armor keeps it alive long enough. a Centaur versus a Prom should be deadly for a Centaur in most situations, it's not a case of "stay and fight", it's case of "find a way out, NOW!"

apart from that, we seem to agree. =)
Jan 22, 2005 terjekv link
CrippledPidgeon, there is a rather big difference with numbers of players flying a Prom. a lot of people can't get a Prom. the numbers alone don't say if it's a good ship. I do agree that it'll be a good indication (if we see no Proms, something is up!).

but yeah. we'll see what happens. =)
Jan 22, 2005 terjekv link
the heavy fighters need some extra thurst as well, just adding armor and keeping them still will make it take longer, but they'd still be targetpractice. but the idea is simple enough, make them able to take hit after hit, and dish it out when they get a target.

this'll also fit nicely with larger combat, either the Prom or the Rag will be a terrific defender, but a pretty useless attacker on its own. this is good in many ways. it warrents different ships for different purposes, and makes for a mix of ships to be important for things like CtC.
Jan 22, 2005 CrippledPidgeon link
As I said, there will be an unnaturally high number of players using the Prom now so that we can test it out, and see whether it fits our playing styles, or not. But we need to wait for several days to see how many players actually stick with it.
Jan 22, 2005 Solra Bizna link
I think the new Prom is balanced. It's the players it fights that are unbalanced.
The Prometheus allows a skilled pilot to use a completely different style from what the normal pilots are used to. Stop attacking it like a light fighter! Anti-light-fighter weapons and tactics are not going to work against a bomber/transport! Use longer ranged weapons. Railguns, rockets, missiles. Stay out of its AGT range and then see who complains.

Okay, i didn't read the complete thread (it's really loooooong), i just pick this:

Renegade wrote:
Anyway, I just wanna hear ruby, spider, lin tell me what they think about the prom. If they consider it balanced, then I will leave it like that.

Here is my answer:

As Sputnik said, my first impression of the MK2 was: great, a nice tradeship. The players who know me a bit, might remember that in alpha i prefered to trade in a Prom.
So i bought this MK2 and sold it a minute later ... still too much of what i call "wobble".

The MK3: Imho balanced. Energydrain, but one can deal with it, good armor, but not uber for this ship ... and ... i was able to bot in it without getting slaughtered by Assaults like it happened in the past.
So i did some quick botting (was too lazy to increase heavy to 10 in the past) to get the ...

Sky Command: I am not sure with the Sky. On one hand it has great armor, the thrust is great, but imo the drain makes it not so uber as many are telling here on the board.
I tried to stay with our convoy in the Sky ... argh, i was always the last to catch up.

And, i want to bring up another argument, why Serco really needs a good prom: We are still the smallest nation, this is a fact. Like i heard from a teammember, we were outnumbered during last night (for me in germany) 12 Itani and UIT versus 2 Serco. This you can't stand in all fighters Serco can get (speaking about the time before this update). It is good to see the Itani more organized atm, but please think about what will happen, if the prom gets down the drain again.
12 versus 2 with the 2 Serco in a prom ... they may not win this battle, but they have a little chance to stand their man/woman - and hopefully without getting insulted after the battle in public chat (like happened last night).

About the AGT: Sorry Shape, but the AGT wasn't and isn't uber. With a bit training you can dodge it. And, you may believe it or not - it needs a bit training to use it well, autoaim isn't all (ask Spider ... hehe). And it still can't follow a fast small fighter or a Valk if the pilot has good dodging skill.
Really strange to see, that the AGT never seems to be a "problem" as long as it was used on a Hog (i cannot talk about the other l-port ships, because i haven't used them for fights).

Ah, and i remember well the times, when i got killed in my Prom often enough by a good Valk pilot. Maybe this whole thing has more to do with skill and not with the ships. Flying a Valk or any other good light fighter doesn't mean, that the pilot is invincible. You always need skill to use your ship (and your weapon) well ... and there will always someone come around the corner who is better than you ... believe me ... ;)

Bottomline of the story for me: I think you will not see now tons of Serco running around in Proms, or Itani leaving for Serco because they want a Prom. A player must love big ships ... and i know enough who always prefered and still will prefer small, agile fighters. In a battle with lots of light fighter the "new" Prom still will have problems to stay alive, but it can help the other teammates to survive.

The devs gave Serco Dominion back a useful special ship. I pray to whomever that they will not nerf it again.

Ah, and don't forget: we are talking about a _special nation_ ship ... and this should stay a bit special. If not, we all can fly around in busses ... ;)

It does sound like the cargo capacity needs to be reduced, and maybe the maneuvering speed and thrust need to be toned down just a bit.

However, 100% of the imbalance posts in this thread have been how it is too hard to take down a Prom 1v1 with a light fighter. (Although I strangely did not see much about how it stacks up against the Valkyrie.) Wait until Monday and try to fight it with a Ragnarok or Hornet. That might be an entirely different story.

If a Rag fights well against the Prom, there is no issue.

This is interesting to see.
I just came back out of game after running the mkII mkIII and SkyCommand (EEEW) through their hoops.

SkyCommand is mostly useless. Its drain is so high that it offsets the change in acceleration, making it more or less. nothing.

mkIII is the best fighter class, given its lower drain and smoother combat, whereas the mkII is slow but a great tradeship. Not quite up to par with the Centaur mkII which totally rocks right now though.

However, the whining I see about the Prom being uber is completely unfounded. Its good, not at all as good as the -old old- prom, but still a worthy heavy fighter again.

Its not a rocketboat, nor is it a brick with thrusters anymore.

A few rounds vs. Niki's IBG cent had me down in health far faster than I could get him within range to tap the GT on his ship, his high manouver speed and darting techniques paid off.

Against Ghost it was obvious that players don't think rockets are harmful anymore, they don't even bother attempting a dodge, with the wonderful results. however, I never got close enough to get a real salvo off with the GT, and they can still outboost and outmanouver my ships with appearant ease.

Overall, The complaints I've seen have been completly out of the blue, With such wonderful quotes as "somone said it was better than a.... so we must nerf it" [FLAMEBAIT DELETED -FM]

I really don't know why the heck you got your panties in a hoop for, especially when other ships (corvus vult, Cent, Orion Cent, Valk, IBG Cent) can give it an obvious whacking.

And so far I still haven't seen any vultures in combat, I believe this to be a mistake, since the vult has an classical advantage over the Gatling Turret for any combat situation.

However, if you only see the prom as a big hulking target you should be able to kill without effort, then I certainly understand why you whine.

My other thoughts:
Boost the manouver speed on the SVG. Put it up to match the IBG, and don't leave Itani with the only advantage in light fighters.

The warthog might need a lookover, especially a bit more thrust, its a hairy issue to make it "good" without making it overpowering without an L port weapon though.

SC Prom. This ship has nothing going for it right now, the drain is too hard to outweight the increased hull and thrust :-/

mkIII : Feels almost like the prom before the mass of weapons. It'll take me a while to get back in the saddle.

mkII : yey, a tradeship that works. finally! Its slower in reactions, heavier and so on. But still gives us a decent freighter that can roll around in a few rounds of combat. mmm. Thankee.

mkI : sorry, didn't even bother with it.

1) First fly the prom FOR YOUR OWN
and then say what is wrong with it.
You are not allowed/able or too lazy to buy and try it?
Then please stop complaining as if you know how the prom really is.

2) You fought the new prom like as if it was the old helpless brick? Or like a cent? So you are dead. Your fault. Learn to fight the prom. There are ways.. and..
Then please stop complaining as if you know how the prom really is.

3) You Did not even play since the new prom is there, but heared a lot?
Then please stop complaining as if you know how the prom really is.

Thank you.

Please let the player look at this new ship and try it longer than a day. The days of the monster-super-valk lasts 2 Years. And the Valk is still a very good (The best, I think) fighter. You will not suddenly die and be history because FINALLY the serco have their nation ship almost as good as the Itanis theirs.

Give us some days to say if there is the need to rethink some of the proms stats. And please be honest.

95 players -- 41 Itani, 18 Serco, 36 UIT at the time I wrote this btw...

Please see: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard?agree=y

Sorry. That pissed me off. I should have thought before posting, but I couldn't help it. Here's the part that was rational and not stupid.

Prom fights:

1) Space hunter - AGT and Dual flares vs Vult3 tach3/fast charge - Me:
Having heard the back and forth, I decided to treat this like I used to treat serco fighter 1 back when he used the same setup back in alpa. Except I wasn't using a Valk, so things got turned around a little. Space hunter was the one constantly advancing, while I tried to stay outside the 150m killzone of his AGT. He didn't use flare very effectively, but then I guess it's going to be a bit before people get used to using them again.

Anyway, I found that I could dodge most of the AGT shots if I kept backpedaling, and the flares weren't much of an issue. I also found that he could dodge most if not all of my tach3 fire - at least, he was getting more hits at that distance with the AGT then I was with my tachs. Chalk that up to me being rusty with tachs and dodging. After I had him down to maybe 60-70%, Phoenix came in and it was running time for me.

Fight 2: Space hunter again, same thing as before.

Same thing, except I discovered if you can get the prom to overturn a little then use the agility of the vulture to exploit it, you can get a few free <150m shots in before you have to get back out again. Still have to work on this tactic.

This one went to the end, with me getting maybe three or four hits on him, and him killing me with AGT.

Fight 3: Spider, two tachs and screamers or jacks vs IBG cent, heavy batt and two tach3.

Saw him, reported him to the ctc group, then waited for him to come to me. I thought I dodged the first few rockets, but I didn't, and ended up getting tossed around before boosting away.

Then I started backing away from his rockets and tachs, got maybe three hits in, then we both broke off. End fight.

Final analysis: The prom probably needs to be at around 16-18k health to help balance its agility and ability to mount heavy weapons with less of a loss. As it is, if I weren't so rusty/not used to the new agile ships, I could have done far better against the prom - not won, but after all, it is a special ship, and the pilots I faced were good. I don't know what shape is on about in his earlier posts... I think it might just be that he's never had to face a prom that didn't suck and has yet to adjust :/

When you see 70 posts in a matter of a few hours, you know it's going to be an emotional thread.

Let me just say this: The update is less than 24 hours old, and many users do not have access to the Prometheus or even all versions of the Centaur. Please let us live with these changes a few days and make suggestions from a practical, rather then emotional, perspective. Dire predictions, prognostications, threats, inflammatory statements and repetition of hearsay from others are all quite unhelpful. Fly the ships if you can, or fly against them with an open mind (never mind what the ship used to be like. Is it reasonable for its stated place in the game?). Try it out in actual situations, THEN please make recommendations.
