This Would Be Fun

Feb 10, 2005 itsallOver link
I love the game, but there is one thing that I would like to see. Can we make an entire sector, possibly in UIT space, for an arena like battle royal. For instance, it takes a little practice and luck to get into PvP. The community is so good that there are people to help, and they do. However, there is no practice for that rush of adrenaline you get when in real combat. The first time I did CtC, I didnt even know where to go, and I screwed the whole process up for my team. If I had known or been prepared it wouldve been better. But here is my suggestion:

Make a sector with much fewer zones. Make it a free zone, where all ships are enemies, regardless of nation. (So Serco can kill Serco, etc.) Post a warning when entering, that it is a battle arena, and all ships are in for combat. This arena can be used for duel competitions, group attack tactics, and just straight PvP practice. Make it so there is no XP loss, but only gain. Add initiatives like King of the Hill matches, or tournaments where the best can fight with an audience. I would love to see certain people settle their differences in an arena. It can be like every other arena, a great place to practice and learn. Maybe then a trader can be ready to defend himself from pirates or random player killers. Maybe even make it so that the wormhole opens to gray space one you have defeated one person in combat in the arena for training, maybe the mentor. A mentor can use this arena and training for better XP gain, like better weapon variants.

Thanks!

I've lost faith in the opinions of the players of Vendetta.
Hell, so many people though mining would be fun that the devs started to believe them. I mean, you can't go much lower than that.

Genka, Im nto really sure what you mean??? CrippledPigeon, Sedina is a great place, but Im talking something more for less skilled pilots. Something for newbies, so they can get the feel for PvP, without having to find a duel!

Genka, still trying to figure out what you mean. I think mining is boring, but makes it more involved, and i think people want to mine to CRAFT. CRAFTING is not part of the game genka, so adding it would be nice. How can you go lower then that? By not posting any suggestions, sitting on the sidelines with your mouth shut? The game wants our input so I will give mine, and I would encourage instead of discourage people to post ideas.

I kinda like the idea.

But I would feel that if we are trying to make this game more realistic, with better options, this unrealistic idea might not work.

Although I agree that the ship wars is a cool idea. Where in a real life situation (comparible) has this type of thing ever occured? (besides the local pub, lol)

If this was to say, become a reality, It seems to me that a sector of space could be ok, but maybe a gigantic global battle station where players could enter and then battle might be better.

Maybe you would have to enter a fee (credit), like a tournament.

This was a similar idea and one I still believe in, and is a great way to bring back some of the arena style pvp combat.

Personally I enjoy mining, but I'm one of the few.

If your looking to practice your pvp skills just ask a friend or a passerby that is of your nation and just fight them, you won't be able to kill them and them you but you will get the feel for live pvp combat. When you feel ready to get your feet wet like someone else suggested, head down to Sedina B-8, sooner or later there will be someone to fight you either in a duel or in a fight.

Appreciate the thoughts, I have been to Sedina B-8, and have had much fun. When I was learning, something like this would have been useful, is all im sayin....

But the arena idea is not un-realistic. Sort of gladiatorial combat. The Serco have a battle tournament every year, (according to the backstory), so why not incorporate that into the game. The arena would be a colliseum of sorts, where combat was practiced except for in tournaments... or whatever, Im just throwing out ideas!

I think the main issue with a pvp arena like what you spoke of is the number of players it would draw away from the rest of the universe.

currently vendetta online doesn't have a huge player base, and alot of us are into pvp. making an arena like that would draw many players away from the MMO environment of VO.

I understand that arguement, but I think if we looked at VO in the long run, we might find a different result.

Vendetta's combat as it is, is a total rush. it's a great combat system (when it's balanced) and the action is to die for. I think getting players more involved in combat from the getgo could attract more players to VO as a whole, the combat is awesome, afterall. Once there alot of players on VO's server, there won't really be a problem with all the players being in the arena, i'm sure people wouldn't want to hang in the arena ALL the time. we wouldn't as it is, but with more players online, there would be a higher sample of people in the arena AND in the MMO universe.

Attracting player base is really important for any MMO. It's up to devs to make the call. I'd just like to point out that VO has very versitile combat and i'm sure many people would be attracted to it's gameplay style, don't hold back!! ;)

Aaactually Starfisher, in this particular case, it was not my intent to troll. I, like most people, am just trying to make my opinions public.

Here, I am trying to voice my opinion that the average suggestion posted on this board are a lot like a gun-sword-wielding skin-tight-catsuit-wearing purple-haired anime girl with a fun backstory along the lines of 'family brutaly murdered, amnesia from someoneorother chasing her, vow revenge, more emo story here,' all drawn and wrtitten by a fourteen year-old in his or her english notebook during PE. Both of these enteties are unbelivably underdeveloped, ugly, unoriginal and virtually unusable in a good game/movie. I see the posting of such ideas as a very, very destructive action, as I will once again support with the mining thingy. More on mining later.

Well, gee, doesn't that sound a lot like I'm discouraging idea postings? Well, if that's the way you feel, then fine. Be discouraged. If you rather wouldn't be discouraged, read on!

A rare few posts on this wonderful fun-filled forum are what I would consider 'quality postings.' These are posts that deal with small things, like suggestions to change the font, make the sell menu hold it's place, make %sector%(defunct) and %target% variables for chat commands, the ship color picker. All these are no-nonsense ideas that are simple and have virtually no effect on actual gameplay. Some more major suggestions also win the fables 'quality posting' award. Suggestions like making the exit and enterance docks seperate and having mobile defending forces rather than stationary turrets. These were well thought-out and carefully considered suggestions, the poster of which probably first thought about them for a few days or weeks before posting.

These 'bigger' suggestions are the best kind of suggestions, but unfortunatly everyone seems preoccupied with suggesting things that would make the game exactly like real life, only with fewer fun job opportunities. I have no idea why this is so. It may be because the average computer-owning person misses the chance to be a ditch digger.
(This was the 'more on mining later.')

This is why whenever I think of a 'big' suggestion if follow the following list.
1) Leave it alone for two days. If I forget about it in that time, it obviously wasn't a very exciting idea.
2) Consider the other side of the suggestion. Who would it hurt? How would it change gameplay? Would the trader/miner I so despise be hurt by this idea?
3) Repeat part two for a week or so.
4) Flesh out whatever details I didn't already think of up to this point.
5) Post.
6) Discuss.
7) Compromise.
8) Feel big ego boost.

This is probably why you don't see me posting very many suggestions. Then again, I'm not a very creative person.

Anyway, I'm done. Sorry if I offended you. After all, I'm only the most elitist person I know.

Sorry to be involved in leading this off topic... but!

Genka, that is the longest post I have ever seen you make, and while I usually enjoy your one line quips, I feel the need to respond.

I completely understand your cynicism, and rarely pay attention to many of the posts in the suggestions forum (I want to land my cap ships on planetz! etc). However I do hold the belief that every suggestion or complaint has merit, and no matter how badly expressed or thought out, is a valid comment on an aspect of the game that obviously needs improvement.

This is the 'elitism of the vets' that is constantly complained about, the one line responses like "just go to Sedina B8" etc etc.

In reading this post about an arena you should take note of where the author is coming from. No matter whether you agree with the suggestion or not, the fact that it has been made highlights an important issue that in the game; in this case 'Newer players have a very very hard time being involved in PvP', and as long as this continues to exist -- the game is flawed. This makes such a suggestion very valid indeed, and it makes your stance a negative for the Vendetta Community.

This also undermines the important role the suggestion board plays in making this game so unique.
