it's actually quite awesome.
I can't believe how large it actually looks...
I don't have a CRT17 to compare it to, but we work on 21" crt's at work, and visually this looks like it's almost the same size.

GREAT brightness and contrast. Even though this is spec'd at only 350:1 contrast ratio, it's one hellava bright monitor. I can't imagine what 1000:1 looks like. Bonus with this one is the 8ms response time.

There's only a slight color shift when viewing at extreme angles, I wouldn't use this one for color work, but it's pretty accurate so far from head on.

Extremely sharp type at it's native 1280x1024.

And lastly, it doesn't seem to be any slower, or run any hotter than when I was using the laptop's display. I've heard that since you are using a higher resolution, and sending through the "out" port, that laptops tend to run hotter and slower. I find this NOT to be the case so far.

24-inch CRT Sun monitor :P

I don't hook it up much though, I doubt my desk can handle it.

Sucker goes up to 1920x1200

Everyone be happy for me. The current equipment order for my, um, internship, at school, is coming in soon:

1x Dual 2.3GHz Xserve
2x 7TB Xserve RAID SAN
Enough gigabit ethernet to connect 40 or so computers
2x Dell 10/100/1000 Managed Ethernet Switches (I didn't pick 'em...)

Now all we need to do is replace this junk Linksys RV082 router with something more workable.

Our stuff came in. I just went online to look up actual prices:

APC Smart-UPS 2200VA (T7627LL/A).... $999
GizMac Xrack Pro2 (T9528LL/A)... $1799
Xserve RAID (14x500GB) (Z0D3)... $13349
Xserve RAID (14x500GB) (Z0D3)... $13349
Xserve G5 Dual 2.3GHz (Z0BH)... $7399
AppleCare Service Parts Kit for Xserve G5 (MA013G/A)... $1099
36mo maintenance contract (D2336Z/A)... $999

Total: $41,342

You'd be surprised how much some of that stuff weighs. The battery module for the UPS is 40lbs, by itself. Now I need to convince them to replace the 6 Dual-G4 workstations in the back with G5 quads.

Happy Birthday!!!

have been thinking about getting my gf the video iPod...
heard there are some issues with converting "home movies" to a format that the iPod will accept...

spent the last week trying to fix my gf's ol G4...she took it back to work this morning, and its still crashing...after a full re-install of absolutely EVERYTHING! Ugh..time for a new computer for her...

Yeah, the big "issue" is that if you don't have a seperate audio track, you won't be able to save the .m4v or .mp4 with audio, making it a "silent movie".
