XBox Controller for Macs.......

Oct 16, 2005 moldyman link
I know they have the PC adapter for the XBox Controller for $19 plus tax. Now is there one for Macs? And is there a way to do it yourself? I personally am used to the XBox controller and hope to kick all your butts better with it. =P Seriously, though, my mouse is screwy.

If you can get drivers, you can convert an Xbox pad to USB simply by splicing a few wires (and leaving out the yellow wire :) Microsoft follow the USB standard pretty strictly, but dont expect this to work for a third party pad.

Dunno much about macs, but if you can get the driver compiled under mac osx, it might work.

So if you buy a convertor, it could possibly work fine under a Macintosh (with a little playing about), I know the PSX to USB convertoers work well under all the OSes Vendetta supports :)

Further time searching shows this :)

I assume the adapters convert the controller connector to USB, in which case it will either be recognized as a gamepad with no special effort, or you can usb USB Overdrive http://www.usboverdrive.com/ or Gamepad Companion http://www.carvware.com/gamepadcompanion.html to program the buttons outside of VO.

[Edit] Might need the above HID driver and one of the two programs above. Though VO seems to recognize just about any HID game device on OS X

AFAIK, the Xbox doesnt act as a USB device, it acts as a USB hub with a HID device connected, it needs the driver to tell the userspace :P

Hrm. Okay, I got a proper adapter now. My computer recognizes the Xbox Controller. I downloaded the HIDDriver, USB OverDrive and GamePad Companion. Now I need an answer to why the hell can't I set it up properly? I follow the directions (which there aren't many) and it just won't work in VO.

EDIT: I try to set it for keyboard/joystick in VO. It doesn't recognize andything, even after I scan.

check out the errors.log file after running VO. It should have all the joystick info it discovered. If it does and you don't see the joystick, send me the errors.log file. It should have a bunch of numbers in it that could help make it work

2006-02-05 20:37:17.140 XboxHIDDaemon[429] loaded config "VO Controller Config" for device id "Pad-8110000"

That might be what you needed, not the error.log >.>;
