no os9 support?

outrage!

i bought a g3 off ebay for 50 dollars. I expected to be able to run the hot games like vendetta.

but no!

the big greedy game companies, like guild, are in league with the RAM manufacturers and computer giants to destroy the lives of simple consumers like me!

what can i say. im going to live in a cave and buy an apple II e with kermit. see how you like it then, civilization! youll all end up dead because your brain upgrades will require more RAM than you can afford in 50 years of hard labor.

now i know what youre gonna say. you can put osx on a g3. well, i could, but my father was a loyal member of the Nation of Islam, under The Honorable Elijah Muhammad and I cant bring that big black box with an X in it into my house or he will cast me out.

Huh? OS9 has been outdated for a long time now. Get over it.

my copy of os9 says 2001. 2001! a mere 5 years ago, my friend. are you outdated because you were born in 1982? 1973? 1962?

Is this what society has come to? Anything older than 10 months must be discarded on the trash heap? Like old cars, old books, old people?

after all, they went to the moon on the equivalent of a commodore 64.

the noblest arts require no fancy gibberish. for example, the greatest troll can be done from the humblest keyboard and a simple modem link, on a machine older than ones high school jersey.

truly the most valuable things do not wither and die with age, but shine brighter through their dusty and frailed frames.

I feel your pain, ananzi. Vendetta steadfastly refuses to work on my BeOS machine, too. Let's start an "archaic OS-using Vendetta haters club".

I don't get why you expect Vendetta to run on an OS that has been replaced 5 years ago with an infinitely better one.

hehehe.
That's funny.
We used to support os9, but it was too buggy to run actual 3d accelerated games on.
I suppose we could bring back the os9 version, but the game probably won't run on it due to the memory requirements of the game. os9 never was forgiving when it came to running out of preallocated memory. It would take more than a few people to petition us to make a os9 version, and they would have to actually pay and not just use the trial. ;)

One thing I will say for OSX. It makes trolling difficult. The fonts are all freaky and I accidentally closed my beautiful Safari window that was talking about Vax VMS, and asking Guild Software "Why do you Hate Freedom?"

But how do I install this 'dmg' file? What is dmg, damage? If you have damaged my machine I will sue for all appropriate copying and private right violations.

Almost in Ananzi, but your still sitting 4 points back of 8th with only 4 games to play.

Start practicin your golf swing.

On a sidenote: OS X runs on those G3s. Even Apple PowerPCs using the 604+ processor (pre-G3) can run OSX. And if you can run OSX (preferrably at least 10.2.8), you can run VO. And Jaguar can be picked up for cheap, e.g. on ebay.

I wouldn't know about framerate on those boxes, though... the bus speed would probably kill everything, but I haven't tried it out (yet. I will do so soon™).

Plus it runs fine under VMS, just set detail level to ASCII. I'm getting like 38 FPS on a terminal that must be at least decade old.

Eh, my g3 iMac (333mhz, 8mb VRAM) won't run VO, unfortunately, but my 400mhz G4 tower will.

Hmm... I'll verify how well VO runs on a souped-up PowerMac 9600/350.

Specs (dunno if it runs yet, but here's hoping):

Sonnet Crescendo PCI Accelerator Card (G4 400/1M)
ATI Rage 128 (16M... or 32, I forget, need to check)
About 512 M of RAM
Eesh, I need a bigger HD to run OS X
Some OS X, maybe Panther (if it can handle that).

it will run it :)

i got a iMac G4

700Mhz
GeForce 2 MX 32MB

512 SDRAM

Wonder if it'll run on my old NES...
