Okey - 3.2.6 is crashing =(

Jun 14, 2003 BusMasteR link
http://vendetta.guildsoftware.com/?action=msgboard&thread=1696&page=1
(as for my recent post on it...)

yeah - okey, the '/set rglow off' not '0' helped a little =)
I now see the star background before it crashes!

It still crashes with SIGABRT error, and openglerr.log was empty this time...
Jun 14, 2003 BusMasteR link
Wuops - found the error... it suddenly can't run with the
option "NvAGP" "3"
Had to put it to 0
Jun 14, 2003 donkeybandit link
So where is this elusive "NxAGP" option then?
Jun 14, 2003 portchop link
it's in /etc/X11/xf86config-4.. it is gonna de-activate your AGP...
Jun 14, 2003 BusMasteR link
And thank you portchop....

Yes, it will disable AGP...

In-game result is:

2D FPS bumps to low rates, on some cards really low...
3D will drop, but that low so it causes game to be unplayable.
If it does:
I have experienced it to be rglow to heavy or something like that, turning it off helped alot on mine...

(Note: I've been running the game on my 700MHz/GeForge MX200 32Mb, with NvAGP 0 in a long time. I only got to use for like 2 - 3 day, till the update came. With acceptable framerates in 16 bit colors, 800x600 and some mixed gfxsettings)

Take a look at my post in this section titled " Some settings for nVidia drivers on Linux" for some additional entries you can make that might help to stabilize your driver.

Also see "How to edit your XFConfig file correctly".

Edit: I'm interested to see if the "RENDERACCEL" option will help you out and if you are running driver 4363 and XFree 4.1+.
Jun 14, 2003 BusMasteR link
I'm running the 4363 (and 4.3.0) and the RENDERACCEL don't work for me =/
Jun 14, 2003 Turmoyl link
As it says in that post you need to be running XFree 4.1 or higher.
Jun 14, 2003 BusMasteR link
and as i wrote i'm running 4.3.0 ;)

I've just discovered that it was dri that override the NVidia acceleration, it works yeah - but not in Vendetta =/

background is all white and fps really dumps - trying to alter it causes a crash...

openglerr.log
texmanage.cpp(520): 'invalid operation'

error.log
sudden SIGABRT signal caught

=/

EDIT: works really good in normal use =)
Jun 14, 2003 Turmoyl link
woops - sorry I missed your version. I was still drinking my morning coffee. heh

I'm not familiar with those errors, though.
Jun 14, 2003 _pico link
My Vendetta crashes after log in, so i can't do a '/set rglow off'
Here is my error log:

hmm - sounds weird _pico...

In your ~/.vendetta directory you have a file called "wgaf.cfg".
Somewhere in that there should be a set rglow line... try and change that... if that doesn't work, we will need more info on your system (e.g. hardware, drivers, versions, logs etc...)

EDIT: np, Turmoyl - Have the exact problem too ;D
Jun 14, 2003 BusMasteR link
A note on the NvAGP setting...

When it worked last night(dk) ;) I tested the setting a little. On 0, it seemed okey in X and game menues and all - but, ofcause, how much does 2d gfx require. I turned it 3 (just realizing now that this is still running the dri, not nvidia acceleration), started the game and once again checked framerates in X, and game - with ofcause improvement...

at 0;
an avg. fps at 80 in menus
at 3;
an avg. fps at 120 in menus

plus better 3D fps at some points...

didn't get to check the game with nvidia acceleration though, but X 2D/3D gfx runs maybe 1/4 - 1/3 time faster at this config (nvidia/nvagp 3/renderaccel true/and no dri nodule =D)...

Then again, i can't play vendetta like this - got to nvagp 0 =(
with bad fps...
Jun 14, 2003 Spider link
RENDERACCEL is -only- for the XRender extention, used by KDE 3.1, Gnome 2 (gtk+ 2.x ) and others to do transparent 2D things. Selection areas, Font AA and so on. Shouldnt be interfering with this game.

Jun 14, 2003 BusMasteR link
might explain my problems with gtk programs ;)
forget what i wrote on that then...

EDIT: glxgears accually runs at avg. + 60 extra fps, without the option here =D

Hi,

I played a while with the rglow option - it still doesn't work :(
I can now fly few seconds, but the background seems horrible (and all other).

Pico

Once in the game can you press esc and then enter the options menu?

If you can, try and change the background detail one down, then back again, ofcause apply'ing each time ;D. If that didn't work, try changing your Texture Detail to something else.

This works on some cards...

EDIT: (rglow on/off??)

This is sooo fun... I somehow broken my gnome now - programs like gedit won't even start now =D
