Graphic Artifacts

Jan 08, 2011 cody-somerville link
I'm not sure what caused this is to happen but today when I launched from the space station I found a rather weird artifact in space: distorted images of my facebook page, lol. Thanks to the helpful folks online I was able to take a screenshot of this if not for anything more than to share a chuckle. You can find the screenshot at http://people.canonical.com/~cody-somerville/dump0000.png

Am going to try starting vendetta again now and see if it goes away.

Here are some notes in case any curious folks out there want to try and debug this:

1. Xubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) x86_64
2. Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS/PCI/SSE2 512 MB
3. Driver Version: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 260.19.06
4. Full Screen
5. Vendetta says I'm using OpenGL Reference GKGL driver

1) Are you using Compiz or any 3D desktop? Seems typical... if so, disable it and try again.
2) Try downloading the most updated drivers directly from nvidia. It is a small script that will compile the modules for your kernel.
3) How does other 3D games behave?

yea have something to kill compiz when you start fullscreen 3D stuff
and start again when you quit fixed quite a few issues for me.

Wow nice. That looks very similar to problems i had running GuildWars in Wine with ATI's FGLRX drivers. It turned out to be a video driver bug in that case. It was fixed with a later version of FGLRX.

I've got some screenshots on an old hard drive somewhere with the hills and trees in the distance being mapped with bits of Pidgin :)
