limited controls with xoom?

Mar 31, 2011 YnotElbon link
So, I've become addicted to VO when I found it on the market. So excited, I bought several months subscription...
Now I'm really ticked off. Looks like I should have spent that money on a bluetooth keyboard instead.

I'm hoping you guys at VO are going to do something about the lack of controls? I just wanna fire my heavy weapons.

Ya I'm in the same. Boat. Pluse I would like to roll with the joystick sence I use the accelerometer to steer with.

Ok, the secondary-fire thing is a known issue. We're also looking to add gesture-based rolling (multi-touch twisting action) and some other things. Hopefully we can at least get secondary fire in there this week.

Our big initial focus was on making fundamentally functional controls that were accessible to beginners, and then on smoothing out the learning curve with improved tutorials. But we have also been patching the game about every week and we do expect to continue making the controls better as we go forward.

Also.. you are aware that you can define weapon groups to shoot all weapons with primary-fire, right? The loss of secondary-fire should be a degradation of flexibility, but it shouldn't fundamentally prevent the usage of weapons.

For a purely energy rig, "degradation of flexibility" would be accurate, and it would be overkill for a ship with only mining beams and scanners. However, I would use stronger words to describe the effect it has on the use of ammo based weapons, to say nothing of using mines in conjunction with any other weapon.

You mentioned in another thread about suggestions for ways to implement a secondary trigger. I don't know anything about the android interface so I don't know if this is relevant, but on my laptop's touch pad I can do middle- and right-clicks by tapping with two or three fingers simultaneously.

how about letting us use a bt keyboard? I have on but VO doesnt use it

Can you tell us what sort of bluetooth keyboard you have? The game works properly with a USB keyboard on any of our tablets. We've heard the reports of issues with some bt units, but would like to know what kind to try and acquire for testing.

Ok, we'll look at ordering one of those.

Incidentally, have you tried going into: Options -> Interface, and then unchecking "enable tablet mode"? This will completely disable touchscreen steering, you'll need to use the keyboard to fly and fight (but this works very well, keyboard play has been proven for over 8 years on the PC).

If this works, please let us know, then at least we'll know the mechanics work and that we have to do a better job of detecting the presence of a keyboard and offering the option of switching input methods.

ok, I will try it and let you know, thanks

Ok, did you exit and re-run the game after disabling "enable tablet mode"?

I'll order one of those bluetooth keyboards, and we'll look into the issue.

For what it's worth, I just got a Transformer (another HC tablet) and paired up my laptop's BT keyboard (a Macally) and it works flawlessly. Didn't change a single setting, just worked. It's possible Asus's tweaks to handle the keyboard dock may have an effect, don't have a Xoom handy to verify on.

(OT: the game itself works swimmingly on the TF, though I've already burned through half my trial and am without CC until the bank sends me a new one, hope it's not /too/ good of a game :)
