Small port / large port problem

Apr 11, 2016 Axel Wheeler link
Hi there. Frequently the ports are red and warning me that things have been installed incorrectly when in fact the game installed them automatically. For example, I currently have a heavy power cell installed in the rear large port, which installed itself on purchase and works fine. But it still displays red and warns that I am trying to put it in the wrong port.

Similarly this often happens with small port items. The xith mining beam refuses to install in any port, or to install itself automatically. I believe it should be a small port item, although it doesn't say so.

Sometimes items will install in the small port but will display red, complain that they I am attempting to install it in the wrong port, and (unlike the power cell) will in fact not work when tried.

At first I thought this was a buggy way of saying I don't have permission to buy that item yet (for things I got in grey space). But these are generally things I buy at the stations I am installing them to.

Furthermore, in at least one case installing a small port item made all the other small port items turn red. Uninstalling that one item made them okay again.

Does this make sense? Am I doing something wrong? I didn't see a thread on this already.

Android LG V700 if it matters.

EDIT:

I've just realized some things:

1. There are three kinds of ports (at least three) not two as indicated. A power cell port is different from a large port, but this creates confusion because it looks so similar. Non-power ports are apparently called weapons ports, but that's an incorrect name because everything else goes in there, including mining stuff.

2. The red color of the port seems more to indicate whether the addon you have selected can fit in it, rather than whether the port has an item that doesn't fit. The confusion comes from the fact that you can deselect all items and the port stays red.

3. A big part of this problem stems from the incorrect description that says the player is trying to put an item in a wrong size port, when the player is not trying to do that. In other words this warning seems to refer to the item already in the port.

4. The Xith beam goes into a large "weapons port" although it doesn't say so. Since I did not have one, it seemed to not go into anything.

Recommendations:

1. Make sure every item says what kind of port it goes into (in the description). Yes they are under that category when you buy them, but some items (like the xith beam) are acquired differently.

2. Change the term "weapons port" to something more accurate, like "weapons/mining port". And use the term "power port" specifically for power ports.

3. When no item is selected (in manage) don't let any ports stay red or display the warning. Meaning that when the player touches the background area to deselect all items (or if it happens any other way) don't forget to un-red the ports.

Thanks, and again let me know if I'm not understanding this right.

Did you completely skip the tutorial or what?

Yes, the configuration screen can be confusing at first, but if you stick to the game it becomes easier to read; seriously, if you can buy heavy power cells, you should have figured things like this out by now.

Whats more, this sounds like it should be posted under suggestions.

anywho, to answer your questions:

1: I'm not sure how the game really refers to them, but I think "light port", "Heavy Port", and "Power Port". does it really matter what they are called? some day you should be able to tell what they are at a glance.

2: I don't have any issue with this; know what ports weapons require and the liscs needed to equip them.

3: is this an extension of the previous comment?

4: Yes, the Xithricite mining beam goes into a large/heavy port.

=================================================

1.a: Items DO say what port they require, I thought?
1.b: You can buy the xithricite mining beam, last I checked. maybe you need to go to a different station to find it (unless there is a small port xith beam for a quest im unaware of?)

2: And who actually would see these names?

3: Again, who would pay attention to this?
