New VO player - GearVR Questions

May 11, 2017 Azurefrost link
Hello Everyone,

I'm new to Vendetta Online, but no stranger to twitch space Sims, having played Freespace, X games, Elite Dangerous, etc. Vendetta Online looks to be a great experience, made even better with VR system. I know the universe and the mechanics for the game can be daunting, especially to a new player and had some basic questions about the game.

- I'm a bit unsure about the monetary payment system. I paid $2.99 for the GearVR version and not sure what that grants me. Am I limited to a certain play time, levels, ships, etc? I saw both a lite and premium version. What does the lite sub get that the f2p people don't? I know what the premium grants but the in-game description makes it seem like it's for the PC version.

-I'm not sure what crystal are for. I know you can buy packs and supposedly earn them in game, but not sure their use. I thought ships and weapons were bought with credits and not crystals. If I subbed I thought that would remove restrictions too. So if someone could explain a bit about the crystals.

-I know I've seen this issue posted on the Oculus store, but I use the Steelseries XL Bluetooth controller & my ship constantly spins counter-clockwise. The only current solution I found to stop this is remove the binding from the right trigger. Clockwise bound to left trigger seems fine, but if the right is bound I get uncontrollable spin. Any solution?

-Can f2p/lite subs not create/buy certain ships like the Tritan capship? Is this ship worth building and is it a decent ship fighter or is mainly a large cargo hauler only.

-Are there any good guides for a new player that discusses good leveling strats, ship & weapon load out suggestions for various activities (pvp, mining, trade), locations for various things (resources, where to buy ships/items), etc. Trying to dive deep into game and learn the ropes and guides are helpful to decreasing the learning curve.

Thank you for the help.

The devs will likely respond to this but since I had the same questions as you 5 months ago here is my opinion.

2.99 gets you f2p access to the VR version. You could have got a non VR version for free on the play store. Also f2p.

With f2p your license limits are capped at 4/4/4/4/4. This lets you have access to most things in the game, be competitive in pvp, etc. But some things are not available or harder to get. In all seriousness, some of the best equipment is under that cap.

Lite sub is $1/mo. Cap at 4/4/4/4/4 but you can play on PC with the same account.

Premium is $9.99/mo. No cap and crystals removed.

Crystals are not hard to get. I never ran out before I subscribed, but someone pointed out to me that a subscribed player can trade weapons and a f2p cant because of the crystal cost. You would have to trade regular commodities. Its essentially a separate currency and you have to pay both credits and crystals if not subscribed. They seem to exist for some very specific technical and gameplay reasons that normally don't impact you.

Its a nice system that lets you pay what you can. You wont notice much difference with a subscription until youve logged enough time to finish 10 or so regular GearVR games.

No. F2P cant build a capship. It is months and months of hard work to build. Maybe work your way up to that kind of task slowly.

What happens if you premium subscribe for a few months and then drop down to lite for ftp. Do you keep your earned license levels, stay in officer levels in guilds, etc?

I think guilds are an issue but your levels are temporarily capped and crystals restored to last level.

The wiki has some good info:

There is also this new player's guide I wrote a few years back:

It's not perfect, but it's something.
