Droid Buttons Touch Targeting Issue

Oct 10, 2018 C0LTA1NE link
I am having an issue with droidbuttons plugin. (Yes, I've created an issue with bitbucket already, you can see it there on bitbucket.org) When I disable the default HUD and create my own with droidbuttons, I can no longer touch the screen to Target, say, an asteroid in front of my ship.

Any thoughts? Does anyone know which option in VO governs touch-targeting? I was thinking maybe I can manually turn just that feature back on through the normal VO options, or maybe droidbuttons options has it, though I haven't seen it.

Well, for one thing, Guild Software doesnt support plugins at all. THe person who maintains DroidButtons is a player named Draugath; You're better off posting future questions like this in the COmmunity Projects forum, or asking about on discord.

I've recently noted the same thing; It seems there may have been a change to VO that disabled how touch-to-target works when plugins like DroidButtons are in use, or maybe its tied to integration in the default interface. To fix, I suppose you can either remap your design around the default interface, or you can add a button for targetting an object in front of you [or any of the other targetting options]. At least until the plugin gets patched, *if* it can.

Just a reminder that I officially abandoned the project in 2016. If someone else wants to pick it up and make changes or maintain the current state they can.

Edit: if anyone wants to take this up and they have questions, I'm willing to answer what I can.

I have the same issue. Without Touch To Target working it takes a very long time to target a certain piece of dropped cargo or roid since the only targeting commands I see available are Target next or previous which cycles through every type of target. Is there a cycle through just dropped cargo or just roids command? Is there any easier way to target just cargo or roids?

Another major issue, I created a db joystick field for the throttle but when I use it it does some strange things. When Flight Assistant is turned off it doesn't work at all. When Flight Assistant is turned on the ship jumps to 25 m/s and I can't stop it unless I hold down reverse just enough to get to 0. When I reverse the ship won't go faster than 25 m/s backwards. /reload doesn't help and I tried deleting the field and creating it again but no luck. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm not 100% sure at this point, but the throttle command for joysticks probably shouldn't have been included in the list. I believe this command only works properly with a physical throttle control on a joystick, and even then it's kind of quirky and I dont think it works for reverse travel. The best thing to use instead is accelerate. FA doesn't support throttle control, only specific direction inputs.

Edit: I meant FA off doesn't support throttle.

Okay thanks. I just made accelerate and decelerate buttons. They seem to work ok. I'm sorry to hear you abandoned the project because it's so vital for mobile players to have but I'm sure you have your reasons. It's the only thing that gives mobile players a fighting chance against PC players.

Someone please, please, please take over this plugin project!

You should be able to use the Accelerate command on the joystick field for smoother control (sliding your finger to adjust speed rather than strict on/off that you get with buttons). It also allows you to blend this with strafe or some other movement. Throttle is just inappropriate for use on mobile.
