Similarly, a player taking a convoy escort mission through grayspace might trigger the addition of a mission for pirates, telling them to "watch out for" an incoming convoy fitting a certain description.

We already had this, back when there were unrats.

These are long-standing ideas, and yeah, some of them have had experimental proto-implementations in the game before. But we didn't have "all missions everywhere" until recently, and I'm hoping to be able to roll this kind of thing out a lot more broadly and robustly, and be able to integrate it with the game at a deeper level. Unrats were kind of an awful hack before, they didn't really have any interesting rules or game system behind them.

Hey, I'm all for pirates having something to do/somewhere to be aside from shooting down traders. But unrats made awesome snowflake clusters!

Going in to the first thread linked to will be tricky; I'd encourage people not to flame the poster, but maybe find out what it was specifically he didn't like about the game, then share some personal experience. This has worked for me in the past when going in to hostile forum environments.

It would be great if Incarnate could get on that RSI 'Game Changers' show, they did an interview with Chris Taylor and his kickstarter has gone up 100k since I last checked. It'd be totally worth the flight down to texas and back to do that interview because it would make the campaign. Hope CR is in a generous mood.

lol, Kabuloso

The Guild Vipers, fighting pirates ... is suspected of being an arm of the Smurfs help. Like Guild TGFT, specializing in trade (NPC), which tb is formed almost entirely of blue, and is the biggest benefit from the protection provided by Vipers Free.

Have to edit that... TGFT is mostly yellow.

Hey everyone, I posted a new Video Update today, this time on some of our large-scale AI. I have a lot more work to do over the weekend, potentially updating the main video a little and preparing for a big push next week.

I did try to keep my head "higher" in the frame this time, but apparently I became tired towards the end ;). Ah well, I'll look at adjusting things in the next one.

Nice, that all sounds awesome. Uncertainty makes for a more entertaining game, especially over longer periods.

Question: If the kickstarter is less than successful is guild going to try again with a more reachable figure?
Feb 03, 2013 incarnate link
Not immediately, no. Running a Kickstarter is incredibly time consuming. Perhaps at some point down the road, and with a smaller development goal in mind.

But for now, let's focus on pushing the Kickstarter we have. I should have some news going out early this coming week, and I'll appreciate any help people can give to getting the word out when that happens.

I tried to get the news on some linux specific newsportals, those which responded said that there is nothing they could write about, since there are no linux specific goals and (their words) it's too much focused on Apple.

My mentioning that VO is for Linux since a long time (the beginning?) was unheared. Sorry.

I guess you should really go for reddit and do a big IAMA there.

Thanks for trying. A few Linux sites that know me picked us up, like Linuxgames.com. But, yeah, there isn't anything exclusively Linux about the goals. Except, you know, that we avidly support Linux and are trying to enhance the game ;). Ah well.

Planning to give the Reddit thing a try.

yeah, I even mentioned to them that linuxgames created two(!) articles about you. Got no response.

I think you could get a lot more press if you gave journalists a bunch of free subscription codes. Maybe they'll scratch your back?
