I am also surprised that everyone thinks $10 a month is alot. I thought there were a lot more players here that played other online games. Of course, it ends up being $30 a month for us, which is rediculous. So I don't know which of us will get to keep playing. Probably the kid. He plays more than we do anyway. I have said it before and I'll say it again.... FAMILY DISCOUNT!!! I don't want to quit playing.

$10 a month is a very reasonable price to me.
Arolte, your argument that you might pay $50 for a game to play by yourself is valid, however for a single player game there is no cost for the company beyond producing the game for you. A persistant multiplayer game has additional costs, (server fees, staffing for customer account service, continuous development of the title [assuming the company supports the product after release], staffing Moderators and guides)

If the game doubles its content every 6 months, or the universe changes significantly over every 6 months, than its almost like getting a new game every 6 months. What i would like to see is a discount for paying for a long term subscription up front, (eg if i buy 12 months right now I only get charged $8 a month instead of $10 a month)

Sally; as long as the devs are leaving 6 characters availible on the accounts, you each get 2 of the slots and thn have to work out a schedule for sharing the computer :)

i'm also thinking that $10 a month isn't much. Jumpgate cost that much, Sims Online costs that much, as i recall, and what does AO cost? There's certainly a standard for the industry.

And given that a gallon of gas runs in the $2 range, milk is $3, cable tv starts around $30, any my pompus ramblings are free, i'm thinking $10 is a fair number.

Lots of pay-to-play games have a pile of folks playing. Keep the price reasonable (which is to say; comperable to other games)and it will be the game that keeps people active, not the price tag.

It will be back. I, for one, have been trying to provoke warfare. I can't quite bring myself to harming those who don't fire back, however.

Errrrm, says n the FAQ we will get breaks for long term subscription ;)

ie
Will there be a monthly fee to play Vendetta Online?

Yes. Because of the costs associated with maintaining the servers and the bandwidth needed to support them, some recurring charge will be needed. The current "going rate" for most MMORPGs is about $15 per month. Vendetta Online will cost less than this. Price breaks will be available for longer term subscriptions.

Which i hope also translates at around $8 a mo, if you buy for the year (which is actually around £5 for me ;), or whatever... Its actually a pretty good marketing giving discounts for bigger purchases, *people are suckers when it comes to a bargain ;)* and once you have payed for the year, you will find the time to at least play for the cash you have spent....(and maybe keep coming back if the game has changed enough, or hooked you) and after playing for free for over two years i kinda feel i owe the devs something.. stay kool all....

My daughters have begged for and received 2 accounts for Lineage. I don't know much about the game so bear with me.
It contains islands that are seperated as well as cities. There are 27 cities and 5 major islands. They tell me that it takes about 4 hours to go through every "sector" on an island and that there are more "sectors" in each city.
The gameplay is a "king of the hill" type in that you strive to build your character and it's "army" in order to knock of the main ruler to become ruler yourself. Then, others would be after you. It involves a lot of PvP with PCs and NPCs.

The price? $15/mo/account and a free download. Too much for me but they are paying it. They are both students and only one has a job. The other is going to pay her back (RRRRRIIIIGHT!)

Not a good choice. Lineage 1 and 2 are both pretty shitty games IMO. IMO the better MMOs are Anarchy Online, Everquest (if you like that type of thing--its a good game, but some people love it others, like me, hate it)... if you like VO, Jumpgate is probably good. Guild Wars and WoW may turn out to be good games. But Lineage 1 and 2, DAoC (at least now, it used to be good), SWG, AC and AC2, Sims Online, and a few others are just plain shit.

1. I'm still finishing up my last year of college.

2. I have $0 spending dollars left, considering I did pro bono freelance work over the summer.

Almost the same except I'm halfway through college, CSE major. What's your major?

How about a Beta Tester discount?
I'm sure there arn't so many players that it will cost guild so much, especially if it keeps the people who wouldn't pay playing. If you lost 40% of the players due to cost, why not drop the price 20% to keep them? 20% is $2, I find it laughable that people would expect $1/mo gaming, or are we talking $2/mo? Come on...

considering what college tuition *could* be... (shudders)
$10/month is =NoTHiNG=

My point was not the merits of the game (Lineage) but the price. As stated, I will pay whatever the Devs charge and will also do so for my one daughter that wants to play it. A Family discount would be good but not necessary for me and a "tester discount", IMO, is totally uncalled for. The payment for testing has been testing.

I'll be buying the box to show my support for Linux development, but I honestly had more fun in Vendetta a year ago, before the new nav system and universe expansion and such.

I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from playng the game full-time, but I won't be there.

(btw, $10/mo is cheap. EQ = $15. AO = $15. PlanetSide = $13. SWG = $15. DAoC = $14. Eve = $13. Etc., etc.)

Sorry, I've been at the beach for awhile...

I meant how to get to the other chatroom...the backup one. I already know of the official one, I'm on it rather frequently, but someone told me about a secret one..

Cheers.

As much as I hate to say I agree with Arolte I must also decline going P2P as I cannot enjoy this game any longer. It doesn't have the same appeal that it did when I started playing. PvP was the heart and soul of this game and it has ceased to exist within this new universe. Sorry Guild but I can't bring myself to pay $10 for this when for $15 i can subscribe to a more full featured RPG.
Sep 18, 2004 Tilt152 link
I wish I can P2P this game but right now I'm broke.

More bills to pay. Once I can find an alternative way to make tons of cash, then I'll go P2P.

I will be there. US$10 is nothing. I'll have one less coffee a week. Done.

As HyperSpaz says, compared to university, this is nothing. Ill add it to my 40k student loan ;)

Well I'll definately be a paying customer, I'm a student in the UK, but £5.57 is nothing! the old currency exchange rates sure work in my favour :) I'd hope to see you all in vendetta one day again, It's too good to just give up...
