Suggestion to stop repeating threads

Sep 22, 2006 moldyman link
1) Make the "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING" thread take up half a page so it cannot be possibly missed.

2) Make the "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING" thread pop up as a new window that ad blockers can't stop, anytime someone selects "Post a new thread" or "Reply".

3) Ban Obsessive compulsive repeating posters from the Suggestions forum.

I assume this is in response to the nav points thread. Nav points aren't (to my knowledge) in the Read Before Posting thread, and the search function is crap. A pop-up window would be annoying. For now it seems to work well to point new posters to the relevant thread and politely tell them to Read Before Posting first. I come to these forums a lot, and I don't want to close a popup every time. What would be cool, (I don't know how feasible and not a priority until we have dozens of new players a week posting crap) is an automatic search function that if you make a post to the suggestions forum compares your suggestion to other suggestions and before allowing you to actually post, points out three or four that potentially already address your issue. You can click on them, which opens them in a new window, and if after reading them you realize your post is irrelevant, you can cancel your post. I would like this, especially since the Read Before Posting thread is bulky and out of date.

Also, it would be cool if this game had nav points. Can I get an ETA on those?

I'm with Prof. Chaos. An unblockable pop-up would irritate more than it'd be worth.

The half-page thing is a bit excessive (but I'm sure exaggerating was one of moldyman's goals). Maybe a quarter page. With fiery letters.

And these are just the topics devoted to them. Who knows how many more went off topic into this realm.

I was not targetting that thread in particular, sir, but when you say that I am attacking it, at least don't use ignorance as a weapon. I, like some others who've been here for a while, are just getting annoyed with reapeats.

My point is, stop making new threads and start resurrecting old threads if you have the same idea with a slight tweak.

My suggestion is that you stop being a thread Nazi and just relax. Instead of making the community look like a bunch of dick holes when some new person makes a "Same ol" post, how about you just take the satisfaction from linking to the old thread with a "Thanks for the contribution, but..." message instead of "Hey moron, are you blind or something? Us 1337 vets all know about the 'Read before posting' thread, so you obviously aren't as cool as us if you don't"

I dunno. After doing that for over a year, I kinda want to try being a dick for a while instead of the nice guy, since nice guy obviously didn't help. I can't say I hate something till I've tried it, right?

I was gonna post something about redundancy, seeing as the suggestion to make the "read before posting" post stick out more allready has been suggested a gazillion times, but realized that it, too, would be redundant.

Oh well, let's all just take a chill pill, and lock this thread, shall we?

smittens, you're a ninny.

Another idea: Let's all not yell "Necromancer!" at people who resurrect threads. Just an idea. Don't look at me like that. Eep. I know I did it myself, as well. I'll stop. Now stop staring at me.
