Station consignment

Sep 17, 2009 Roda Slane link
Station consignment is the concept that you can ask a station to sell something for you.

Example: I want to dump a load of hive fast charge power cells. Stations normally pay 0c for hfc, and even most veteran players have little to no use for them, but the right newb might pay decent credits for one (or more). It is a matter of picking the right station to put them up for consignment. I find a station willing to accept the item on consignment, and I set my sell price. What I get paid is not what the station sells them for. The station decides how much to mark them up, and may even quote different prices to different people, depending on such things as standing or levels, etc. But I don't get paid until the station actually sells the item, and the station charges a storage fee just to even hold it on consignment.

Not all stations will accept all items on consignment. Few stations will accept laws. It just isn't an acceptable commodity in most places. Some stations may have "no hive", "no military grade" , or "no Serco" restrictions.

Many station will enforce standard requirements for purchasing something on consignment. You are not going to buy that megaposi or ultracharge without the required badge. Even Corvus has standards.

But some items will sell. Finally an outlet for those dentec cores, hive positron blasters, and "slightly used" X-1 valks. Some stations might even accept damaged equipment. Can't afford to repair that greyhound? Perhaps it is time to put it up on consignment.

As people have greater opportunity to set items for sale, the economy will gain greater responsiveness to pilot needs and demands.

I really like this idea. Might be too much to implement at the moment, but it's a fantastic concept. Thumbs up.

That is something that has always annoyed me. Really, on Odia M-14, you won't sell me UC batteries at a high price, Corvus? Unlikely.

What kind of prices where you thinking of? Talk to me.

I posted this elsewhere before I became aware of this thread. Definitely want consignment.

Before I do though, I will add that this creates great outside the box trade opportunities. Just staging frequently sought after proc items at key stations would make people a fortune. Or moving g3's or n3's into sedina for everyone to buy at a slight markup. Let the players make the economy!!!!!!!!!!

From other thread: With regard to selling ships, I would like to see a consignee system implemented which would allow players to place ships or items for sale at a price of their choosing- with a slight percentage of that going to the station as cost of doing business. So for example, I could take the time to haul 20 X1's down to Sedina and post them for sale at say $200,000cr each. This would cover the cost of purchase, labor involved in moving the vehicle and give me a modest profit. Qualified players could put fully constructed superlights up for sale at say 2,000,000cr each. /me misses Scarshop

Fluffette,

I am suggesting that you can set what price you will receive, but the station decides how much to mark it up. If you ask 5k for that hive fast charge, the station might list it at 6k to a local newb, and 7k to that out of town guy. Either way, you will only receive the 5k you asked for. The station will keep the rest. You don't have any control over the station's profit margin. Some stations will just automatically tack 50k to a law, if they will accept it on consignment at all.

Either way I'm for this. My view is that the station should either tack on a set percentage or take out that percentage from the sale price the player sets. I agree that whether your method or mine, the station should get its 'take' on the deal.

I would tweak this with another suggestion that players could be able to assign favor or disfavor status to guilds, nations or individual players which would raise or lower the sell price accordingly. This would probably make implementation more difficult, so its just on my 'would be nice' list. Consignment is on my 'must have'.

I think the station taking a percentage is ok. The percentage could be based on what is being put up for consignment, with higher rates for weapons and ships, and even higher rates for out of town stuff. I would expect a serco station to charge an extra fee for allowing an x-1 to be put on consignment.

In addition, the percentage should be charged repeatedly over time. For one thing, this will keep players from putting stupid stuff on consignment at ridiculous prices. No one is going to pay 2 mil for a law, and if the station is charging %10 per day for it to be listed, a player will being paying a small fortune to list something that isn't going to sell.

As you say, a favor system is in the "would be nice list". Perhaps save that one for a future suggestion.

Another good idea to never be implemented...

@ Alloh... I've seen so many ideas get implemented I've honestly lost count. I think the problem is you have "GOOD" ideas and "YOUR" ideas confused. Granted you have had a few good ones but 99% are pure garbage. At any rate, things take time. So wait and be patient, and don't give up. But, if you do give up... don't get all mopey emo.

+HUGE number.

I sell things already at a slightly marked up price on one character, and this would make it a lot easier. This would also be simply amazing for conquerable stations. I'd sell a ton of stuff in I-8 : D

+1, great idea.

"I'd sell a ton of stuff in I-8 : D"

Lol, and this one too. :)
Maybe we can dedicate one of these stations to player to player (black) market.

applies to this some what and would be easier to implement.
