I keep thinking that a simple way to increase customisability on ships would be to add another type of slot, a tuning slot maybe. Somewhere you could place a speed tuning to increase speed by a percentage, or manoeuvrability, or a bunch of other things, even going as far as maybe an energy weapons 'supercharger' to forego a mobility increase in favour of a damage increase, or a free reload for missiles, it could even take up some grid power or cargo space relative to the strength of the tuning, and as a way to limit the use of tunings to certain ships/ setups for balance. The extra slot would primarily bring about the good old debate of increasing strength, or improving weaknesses. Also would be another aspect to level ups... better tunings. I apologise for lack of a good layout, is not easy on android!

Another type of tuning... Energy weapon dissipators to reduce energy damage taken, or similar for explosive damage, e.t.c.

This thread title lead me to expect a much more titillating subject matter than I actually found within the thread itself.
