FM, chill, hes not attacking me, just making light of how crappy the prom is when it comes up against swarms. Which is why it needs more armor.
Oct 21, 2003 Forum Moderator link
Pardon me, please don't tell me to chill. It was a generalized statement to the posters who were making personal attacks on eachother. I can sort of see how Rene would think I was speaking to him directly, given the proximity of the posts, but it really doesn't apply to you since you were not attacking each other personally - now does it? "Sheesh".

Dave, prom is an armored bomber, not supposed to take on valk all the time 1 on 1. If you get in a dogfight, you SHOULD lose, BUT if you DON'T make it a complete dogfight, then you have a much better chance, with the hull and the large port.
Also depends on experience, skill, and setup.

Personally I don't see a problem with the prom. In terms of specials it's already much better than the maud and not far off from the valk. Being weak against swarmers is exactly that - a weakness. The adv. gatling cannon means that enemies can't get close making their energy weapons ineffective. It's faster than the other two heavies. It's hull is bigger than most ships. I honestly can't see anything wrong with it.

I just really don't want to see non-special ships become obsolete.

sigh

Sometimes it seems I am invisible on these forums as I am in real life. Can anyone at all give their opinions on my balance ideas? Is it too much to acknoledge that I even exsist?

I'm for SOME change, but I don't think hull is in the right direction, see my other post for details.

The real question here Daon is: "Should you use your invisibility for good, or for evil?"

Now it's MUCH more on topic! Please don't attempt to give me orders. It's rude and presumtptuous. I have to balance the wants and needs of everyone here, and your individual opinion is but a small piece of that.

I think the question is...

"If Dave and TS2 weren't using the prom and killing stuff in it, would it be boosted?"

Sorry if it sounds arrogant, but before I started using this ship the vast majority of people saw the prom as nerfed. What has changed since then? This ship needed a hull boost then, and still does now. The valkyrie is used by 80% of blues regularly because it is "the best ship" and most people find it very user-friendly and extremely powerful. In the hands of an experienced player, it is awesome. Is the same true for the prom? No- most newbies head straight for the vulture/valk/hog/rag as their ship.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try and see that the prometheus has had a brutal smear campaign launched against it and then was powerfully beaten down as the Serco special. Then ask yourself whether a prom is better than a ragnarok and worth 4 times the price. Then ask yourself why youre trying to keep the prom down at a mere 18k hull when it is supposed to have obscene amounts of armor. Its not fair, its just not fair *sob*

How about instead of whining that perfectly good threads need to be locked, we try to *GHASP* get it back on topic?

-20k hull just seems absurd though. It's hard as hell to get within fighting range of that ship as it is. I would rather it be given an S-port first. If that doesn't work out, add an L-port. If that still doesn't work, then maybe give it some hull and slightly fatten it a little.

/me cries because his special is no good at combat compared to the other two.

Your last post hits the nail on the head UncleDave:

"If Dave and TS2 weren't using the prom and killing stuff in it, would it be boosted?"

I think this is a very good question and I think the answer is yes. I wouldn't think twice about attacking anyone else in a Prom (dang Sercos). But I stay away from Dave and TS2 (I guess). I personaly can't fly a Prom to save my life, and don't say its just me cause I've waisted a lot of you in my Atlas so I CAN make a slow ship dodge. Yes I know some of you have waisted my Atlas as well, but that was just luck.

On the other hand I have horrible vivid memories of Icarus Prom ramming before the first hull "nerfing". I'm not sure if that would happen again in the current universe, the art of dodging has improved quite a bit even from then. You have to admit that valk rammers made us good at flair dodging.

In short I vote boost the Prom.

Hoax, I think that Icarus liked the Valk more. It was Phoenix who would take the uber-avalon (60m prox) and ram into people. I think that the Prom is too agile, regardless of the hull. It is impossible to hit it with gauss at ranges above 200m. It's nearly as hard to hit it with rails as well. I think the hull should be boosted to compensate a slight loss in agility.

Camps, I think he was thinking a bit farther back, when the specials were first introduced, we didn't have a black market, and the prom was by far the best ship in the game. Icarus loved the proms back then.

ay, I agree with magus.

Its a bother killing one, and adding a small slot weapon could be a nice idea.

cheers

<Fenix> I just think the prom needs 2k more hull, and it'll be perfect.

I like the boxer analogy, but what we're looking at is a small fighter with equal hitting power to the big guy, but who's fast, and a tiny target. I couldn't tag a decent Valk pilot with a Ragnarok or Prometheus if I tried. You just have to run away, because he's gonna come in and triflare or gauss you to death, and you'll be helpless.
