Battles & 'Honor'

Anyone else feel as if there is a set code?

Seriously, I backpedal and keep a healthy 400-1000 between me and my enemy, as i continue to snipe. Now these people(Mostly Gauss and Flare users, hmmm) say I'm a coward. I am called a coward for fighting wisely, and doing something different from the mean. May this be part of the reason why flares are overpowered? Because people are locked into the idea of melee battles?

Futhermore, I fight in packs. I will ally with Neutral or Serco ships in the area to kill someone else. These people will complain about how "no-skill" you are for fighting intelligently. Why is it that those that play smart are even called cheap by Pirates with tri-flares or tri-gauss. Is it written in an invisible books that we must charge at Valks yelling "Kamikazi" and weapons blazing? Why is it that people believe this?
(A.K.A epitomizes both of these)
I just want answers to these questions, or maybe discussion.

I think it comes down to the fact that a lot of people can fight well doing the all out style. So it boils down to pride. "I can beat you solo going full tilt, and you need others. pah. wimp."

I disagree with them, and agree with you.

It's such a shame that people can't accept that deb:(

yeah, also got your ass kicked by my gauss vult.

Rails are only good at 1000m at something like a stationary rag.
If you need to be 1000m away to kill a rag, you've got problems, and are most likely a coward.

Alien, if you're commet i recall i killed you what, 5 times before i died, and wasn't that only after trying to get the other guy who interfered off you? If you're anyone else, i haven't been killed by ya in a vult.

If you're A.K.A, you've gotten owned so many times it's not even funny.

Either way, you are a perfect example of what I'm proving.

Uh, before this goes where I think it's going, how about y'all just knock it off, k?

/me puts shoulder to thread and SHOVES it back towards a discussion of tactics not a flamewar.

Pirogoeth2 I couldn't agree with you more. I also prefer a more defensive combat style, tho i prefer about 300-600M distance so as to make my adv gat useful as well as my rails. (i like the prommy, adv gat dual railgun hvy/hvy) Sunflares almost never even come close to me, backpedaling keeps me alive and able to dodge out of their path easily. Some people call me a coward as well, but since they are always the ones who started the fight ( I'm nonhostile because thats just how I am, the only person i attack on sight is phoenix) i just tell them not to whine about how I fight if THEY are gonna attack ME.

Thanks gents.

Piro, if you REALLY just want questions like those answered, you should not be calling people out "(<player> epitomizes both of these)". Calling people out negates discussion because it causes the reader to react rather than think. If you want a flamewar, keep doing what you are doing - on somebody else's website.

alienb, don't take the bait.

Yes, the irony of insults in Vendetta never ceases to amaze me. On a few occasions, mostly back when I started but still a few times recently, if I managed to kill or damage to under 10% any of the lone wolves out there, I would be told with much bluster that I "would never get that lucky again." I've also been called nOOb more times than I can count, as if it were an insult.

Let this be my announcement to the world: YES. I AM A NEWB. I started playing during thanksgiving. I have no idea why being new to a game is bad, but apparently its one of the most deadly insults out there.

Quite honestly I don't understand why people are so obsessed with their skill in this game, or why they yell out coward when someone does something completely rational like dock after running out of ammo or being heavily damaged. Especially when the insulter will do the same damn thing five minutes later. I have, rarely, said something along those lines. I only do it when whoever I'm taunting managed to piss me off through bragging or griefing. It seems fitting that after claiming they would grief me dry or calling me an idiot newb, they be reminded of the fact that they are running from the fight they started.

Still, that is rare. I usually don't anger easily, and do my best to see every encounter with a griefer/pirate as a learning experience. (Ironically, that seemed to piss them off even more... god forbid that someone try to learn this game!)

Funny Forum Moderator, it seemed like I was being honest, oh well.

Ah yes, the whole n00b or newb thing. Really thanksgiving isn't that newbish, and by your discription of when you were called a newb it doesn't seem like you're a newb either. STriking when the enemy is weak is another tactic that people call newbish. Is it unfair somewhat? Yes. Does it matter? No. If a person enters a sector with a enemy, wounded, then it's their own problem.

Docking and running, hmmm, those two i forgot about as well. I often back into sector 4 or run for the dock when outnumbered. Either exercising patience or using NPCDEF bots if they chase. Not quite what you do, but it illicits calls of 'coward' like no other.
Jan 23, 2004 Magus link
Piro, I didn't say you did. Simply that the majority of the players in the game do and I find it disturbing. Bragging about beating someone in an unfair fight is downright lame. If you want bragging rights, you fight with honor. Otherwise, you don't get any. Sorry, try again tomorrow.

And if you stay 400-1000 meters away from someone, how do you expect them to hit you without flares? You're in a valk so you can outmaneuver them, energy weapons are too random at that range, rails are unusable while dodging whatever decoy you have going after them if you're double teaming, and if you're in a valk homers won't do much good. Flares or jackhammers are the only weapons that will work.

And if you're going to defend your fighting style and throw honor out the window, then maybe it's a bit contradictory to imply critisism of people who use sunflares or Gauss.

If you brag about beating someone after double teaming them, then you can expect them to get mad at you. You outnumbered them, you have nothing to brag about. So quiet, please.

Gentlemen: Please try to stay on the topic of "Codes of Honor".

You are asked to "Be Nice", not to "be honest" here. Diplomacy is knowing what NOT to say in order to make a point / complete a task. Holding somebody up as an example will almost always lead to an emotional, rather than rational, response.

Yes
Jan 24, 2004 Pirogoeth2 link
It's normally tri-flare and tri-gauss that call snipers cowards... But anyway, anyone else have sniper builds?
Jan 23, 2004 toshiro link
yeah, but it depends on whether you let it bend you or not, getting that little for honor, that is.
Jan 23, 2004 Jm262 link
I completely agree with you piro. I've been saying that to people the whole time. Such as this particular person who griefed me. Everytime he tried to kill me i'd get some friends and we'd go kill him. He told me how he was better than me and i agreed with him...he died.

So anyway really honor, atm, well, there isn't any. There are many unbalanced parts of the game. So until it's really balanced and fair, then people can start bragging about how uberl33t they are.
Jan 23, 2004 The Kid link
With current "game" structure there really isn't anything you get for honor just little self satisfaction and tons of complaints from whining "I'm so good" type players.
